EL MACERO, Calif. - The 24th-ranked Bruins sit in third place after two rounds of the El Macero Classic, shooting a 9-over 297 as a team on Saturday at the El Macero Country Club. UCLA is at +17 (593) through 36 holes, three back of 12th-ranked Texas Tech (+14, 590) for second.
Junior Cole Madey shot an even-par 72 to put him in a tie for sixth (+3, 147). He made two birdies on the second and 15th holes and two bogeys. Also in the Top 15 after 36 holes are junior Patrick Murphy and sophomore Hidetoshi Yoshihara, as each are tied for 11th (+4, 148). Murphy, playing as an individual, recorded an even-par 72, making three birdies (#1, #2 and #15) and three bogeys, while Yoshihara had a second-straight, 2-over 74, recording four birdies (#4, #5, #7 and #10), four bogeys and a double.
Junior Jack Ireland and freshman Devon Bling are both tied for 16th (+5, 149). Bling shot a 2-over 74 on two birdies (#15 and #17) and four bogeys, while Ireland, playing as an individual, had one birdie on #15 to go with four bogeys for a 3-over 75. Senior Tyler Collier is tied for 26th (+7, 151), posting a 7-over 79, making a birdie on #10, six bogeys and a double. Freshman Eddy Lai is tied for 32nd (+8, 152), recording two birdies (#7 and #15) and seven bogeys in a 5-over 77.
