ROLLING HILLS ESTATES, Calif. - After struggling during Monday's opening round of the Pac-12 Conference Championships, the 24th-ranked Bruins were 12 shots better in the afternoon to finish 36 holes at even-par 710 at the Rolling Hills Country Club.
UCLA was 11th after 18 holes, shooting a 6-over 361, but rose to seventh following a 6-under 349 in the afternoon. The Bruins were one of seven teams to shoot par or better on Monday.
Junior Cole Madey is in solo sixth (-6, 136) after two rounds, recording a pair of 3-under 68s on Monday. In the morning, he had four birdies on #4, #12, #14 and #15 with just one bogey on #18. Madey was bogey-free in the afternoon, posting birdies on #2, #4 and #17.
Sophomore Hidetoshi Yoshihara is tied for 30th after 36 holes at even-par 142. He shot a 1-over 72 in round one, making back-to-back birdies on #15 and #16 and three bogeys. In round two, Yoshihara posted four birdies (#7, #10, #15 and #17) and three bogeys for a 1-under 70.
Junior Patrick Murphy and freshmen Devon Bling and Eddy Lai are all tied for 48th (+3, 145). Murphy opened with a 4-over 75 on four bogeys, but was five shots better in the afternoon. He made four birdies on #2, #3, #7 and #18 and three bogeys for a 1-under 70. Bling was also five shots better in the afternoon. After a 4-over 75 on four bogeys, the freshman had four birdies on #5, #10, #15 and #17 and three bogeys. Lai shot a 3-over 74 in round one, making one birdie on #10 and four bogeys. In the afternoon, the freshman recorded five birdies on #4, #7, #11, #12 and #17, three bogeys and a double for an even-par 71. Senior Tyler Collier is tied for 55th (+4, 146), shooting a 1-over 72 in the morning on three birdies (#8, #15 and #17) and four bogeys. In round two, he posted a 3-over 74, making three birdies on #2, #10 and #18, four bogeys and a double.
The Bruins will start their third round on Tuesday at 9 a.m. off tee #10 in the order of Collier, Murphy, Lai, Bling, Yoshihara and Madey. Live scoring will be available here.
