STANFORD, Calif.ย -- No. 1 UCLA extended its school-record dual match winning streak to 30 on Saturday afternoon, winning its first Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Championship with a 3-1 win over the two-time defending champion, No. 2 USCย (25-12) at Stanford's Beach Volleyball Stadium.
The Bruins, who improved to 35-3 on the year, will now wait to hear their seeding in the NCAA Championship on ncaa.com in the Selection Show tomorrow at 4:00 p.m. PT/7:00 p.m. ET.
The Bruins opened the dual with USC with a win on courtย four as senior Elise Zappiaย and freshman Mac May defeated USC's Jenna Belton and Majaย Kaiser in straight sets, 21-17, 21-17.
USC tied the match on court five when Alexandria Poletto and Haley Hallgrenย defeated junior Izzy Careyย and freshman Megan Muret in straight sets, 21-17, 21-17.
Juniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara put the Bruins up 2-1 with their first win over USC's Tina Graudina and Abrilย Bustamante, 21-19, 21-15. The McNamaras were named to the Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Championship All-Tournament Team.
Sophomoresย Madi Yeomans and Savvy Simoย sealed the match with a straight-set win over USC's Joy Dennis and Cammieย Dorn, 21-19, 21-16 on court three. The Bruin duoย was named to the Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Championship All-Tournament Team.
Junior Sarah Sponcil and sophomore Lily Justine were in a rally on court two but their match with the Trojans' Tereseย Cannon and Sammy Slater was truncated, 21-23, 18-15. The UCLA pair wasย named to the Pac-12 Beach Volleyball Championship All-Tournament Team.
