LONG BEACH, Calif. -- No. 2 UCLA improved to 12-0 on the year with a 9-7 win at No. 7 Long Beach State on Friday night at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center. The Bruins improved to 101-21-1 all-time against the 49ers while LBSU dropped to 6-4 on the year.

The Bruins were led by a trio of players that scored two goals, which included sophomores Felix Brozyna-Vilim and Nicolas Saveljic and senior David Stiling. Redshirt junior Alex Wolf got the start in the cage and went the distance, recording five saves while allowing seven goals.

Freshman Jake Cavano opened the scoring with a power play goal (5:07) to put UCLA up 1-0. Senior David Stiling then scored his second goal of the year with a nearside skip shot (2:47) to put UCLA up 2-0. Lovro Miocevic cut the lead in half (1:42) with a power play goal for the 49ers and then Chandler Kaltenbach tied the game at 2-2 with another power play score (0:14) that ended the first period scoring.

Sophomore Nicolas Saveljic opened the scoring in the second period (7:36) with a heater from the front court to give UCLA a 3-2 lead. But Austin Stevenson answered with a power play goal (4:40) to tie it up. But on the next possession, Stiling scored his second of the game on a power play (4:10) that was assisted by senior Austin Rone to put the Bruins up 4-3. Then Saveljic added his second of the game on a Bruin power play (2:48) to make it 5-3. Freshman Ashworth Molthen then set up Rone for a power play score (1:45) to double up the 49ers, 6-3, at the break.

Long Beach State opened the scoring in the third period with back-to-back goals (5:35 and 5:00) to cut the lead to 6-5. But sophomores Felix Brozyna-Vilim and Quinten Osborne scored back-to-back goals at two meters (4:34 and 2:21) to push the lead back three. That score would hold up until the end of the period with UCLA leading 8-5.

Theodoros Pateros scored on a counter for the 49ers (3:47) to break open a scoreless fourth period and then Stevenson converted a penalty shot (3:15) to trim the lead to 8-7. But Brozyna-Vilim ended the scoring in the game on a power play (1:19) with his second of the game to provide the 9-7 final.

The Bruins return to action tomorrow when they host No. 13 UC Irvine (4-4) at 1:00 p.m. PT at Dirks Pool at Spieker Aquatics Center.
