STANFORD, Calif.ย -- No. 1 UCLA improved to 25-0ย on the year with a 4-1 win over No. 12 Californiaย (14-5) on Saturday afternoon in the Pac-12 North Tournament at Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium.
Seniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara got the Bruins on the board firstย for UCLA with a straight-set win onย court one over Chloe Luyties and Jordan Polo,ย 21-8, 21-13.
UCLA's seniorย Sarah Sponcilย and junior Lily Justine put the Bruins up 2-0 with a straight-set win on court two over Cal's Maddie Micheletti and Caroline Schafer,ย 21-18, 21-16.
Freshmanย Lindsey Sparks and seniorย Izzy Carey clinched the dual on court five again with a straight-set winย over the Golden Bears'ย Mia Merino and Abby Waldburger,ย 21-16, 21-14.
Sophomore Lea Monkhouse and junior Savvy Simoย made it 4-0 with a straight-set win on court four, beating California'sย Madison Dueck and Alexia Inman, 21-12, 21-15.
The lone casualty on the day was the Bruins' last remaining undefeated pair of freshman Abby Van Winkle and senior Zana Muno, who dropped a three-set heartbreaker to Cal's Grace Campbell and Ivan Lindahlย on court three, 16-21, 21-16, 15-13.
The Bruins return to action tomorrow at the Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium atย 9:00 a.m. PT when they take on No. 2 USC.
