STANFORD, Calif.ย -- No. 1 UCLA improved to 24-0ย on the year with a 5-0 sweep of Washington (6-7) on Saturday morning in the Pac-12 North Tournament at Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium. It was the Bruins' 15th sweep of the year.
Seniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara got the Bruins on the board firstย with a straight-set win onย court one over Kristen Gengenbacher and Destiny Julye, 21-16, 21-15. The win marked the 100th career victory for Nicole McNamara.
UCLA's seniorย Sarah Sponcilย and junior Lily Justine put the Bruins up 2-0 with a straight-set win on court two overย UW's Kara Bajema and Shayne McPherson, 22-20, 23-21.
Freshmanย Lindsey Sparks and seniorย Izzy Carey clinched the dual on court five with a straight-set winย over the Huskies' Emma Calle and Callie Weber, 21-9, 21-14.
Freshman Abby Van Winkle and senior Zana Munoย made it 4-0 with a straight-set winย on court three, defeating UW's Samantha Drechsel and Cat McCoy, 21-17, 21-13.
Sophomore Lea Monkhouse and junior Savvy Simoย completed the sweep with a straight-set win on court four, beating Washington's Avie Niece and Kyra Petersen,ย 21-16, 22-20. Monkhouseย went back to serve in the first set with her duo trailing 15-9 and she served eight straight points, including three aces, to help the Bruins end the set on a 12-1 scoring run.
In exhibition play, sophomoresย Mac May and Megan Muretย defeated UW's Chloe Newton and Anna Visser in straight sets, 23-21, 21-11.
The Bruins return to action later today when they take on No. 12 California ย at 3:00 p.m. PT.
