STANFORD, Calif.ย -- No. 1 UCLA closed out the Pac-12 North Invitational with a 4-1ย win at No. 19 Stanford (9-12) on Sunday afternoon at Stanford Beach Volleyball Stadium to improveย to 26-1 on the year.
Seniors Megan McNamara and Nicole McNamara put the first point on the board with a straight-set win on court one over the Cardinal's Charlie Ekstrom and Tori Ashkinos, 21-11, 21-17.
Then senior Sarah Sponcil and junior Lily Justine made it 2-0 with a straight-set win on court two over Stanford's Sunny Villapando and Morgan Hentz, 21-16, 21-14.
Senior Izzy Carey and freshman Lindsey Sparks sealed the dual victory with a straight-set win on court five over Stanford's Chelsea Red-Horse Mohl and Kat Anderson, 21-5, 21-13.
Junior Savvy Simo and sophomore Lea Monkhouse made it 4-0 Bruins with a straight-set win on court four over Blake Sharp and Shannon Richardson,ย 21-13, 21-15.
Senior Zana Muno and freshman Abby Van Winkle dropped their third straight match with a three-set heartbreaker to Stanford's Maddie Dailey and Amelia Smithย 21-14, 14-21, 13-15.
In exhibition action, Mac May and Megan Muret defeated USC's Josannah Vazquez and Karina Myszkowski in straight sets, 21-13, 21-16.
The Bruins return to action on "Senior Day" at Sunset Canyon Recreation Center on Saturday, April 20 when they host a doubleheader, beginning with Grand Canyon at 9:30 a.m. PT and concluding with Long Beach State at 3:30 p.m. PT.
