ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- No. 2 UCLA (1-0) scored the first six goals of the game and never looked back in posting a 15-3 win over Fordham in the 2019 season-opener for both teams at the Navy Open on Saturday morning at Lejeune Hall. The Bruins improved to 3-0 all-time against the Rams, winning their 16th consecutive season opener (since 2004).

The Bruins were led by freshman Tommy Gruwell who scored a game-high three goals in his first collegiate game. Freshman Bernardo Maurizi played the entire game in goal, registering 13 saves while allowing three goals (one penalty and two power play goals).

UCLA led 5-0 after one period of play. Gruwell also had the honor of scoring the first goal of the 2019 season on a power play at the 7:25 mark. Sophomore Ashworth Molthen then put the Bruins up 2-0 with a power play strike (6:21). Sophomore Jake Cavano made it 3-0 when he converted on a penalty shot (4:15). Molthen netted his second score of the game on a counter (3:31) to extend the lead to 4-0. Freshman Cameron Reagan scored his first collegiate goal on a power play (4:35) to push the lead to 6-0 midway through the second quarter. After Fordham scored their first goal of the game on a penalty shot (3:24), the Bruins quickly answered with another power play goal as Cavano notched his second goal of the game (3:06). Junior Felix Brozyna-Vilim put the Bruins up 8-1 with a goal from two meters (1:30). White scored his second of the game on a power play (0:11) to end the scoring in the period with UCLA leading 9-1 at halftime.

Redshirt freshman Ryan Sawyer scored his first collegiate goal (5:29) from the front court to open the scoring in the third period with UCLA leading 10-1. After a power play goal by Fordham, UCLA freshman Gabe Discipulo netted his first collegiate goal on a power play (3:43) to make it 11-2. The Bruins would close out the quarter with two more goals, the second for Gruwell on a counter (2:13) and the second for Reagan on a power play (1:37) to push the Bruins' lead to 13-2.
