Distance Squad, Chenault Shine in Weekday Competitions

UCLA continued its outdoor seasons at a pair of locations Thursday, with the distance crew taking on the Anteater Distance Twilight in Irvine, Calif., and a pair of Bruin multi athletes heading out to San Diego for the Aztec Invite.

Anteater Distance Twilight
Jett Charvet was the first competitor for the Bruins in Irvine, taking the win in the men's 800m with a time of 1:55.32. He finished almost a full second clear of runner-up Miles Duncan (1:56.29) from Irvine.

Senior Paige Carter was UCLA's top finisher in the women's 1500m, clocking a career-best time of 4:33.30 for third place overall. Gwyn George was right behind in fourth, crossing the line at 4:34.58. Emma Tavella and Kira Loren went 7-8, finishing with times of 4:40.28 and 4:42.06, respectively. Freshman Ashley Johnson took 13th in her UCLA debut, crossing the line at 4:53.74.

Munir Kabbara notched a personal-best time of 3:49.71 in the men's 1500m competition for the event victory. Freshman Anthony Stone was just behind at 3:50.00, taking second place on the day. Darius Riley followed in fourth (3:51.37) with freshman Jake Parker crossing in sixth place with a time of 3:52.94. Mason Ratkovich (3:53.88) and Andrew Martinez (3:53.23) went 8-9 while Dylan Wilbur took 11th place at 3:55.55. DJ Lawson capped UCLA's lineup with a 16th-place finish (4:04.62).

The women's 5000m saw Annabelle Werner take ninth overall with a time of 18:07.97. Claire Selleck was UCLA's second finisher, crossing in 13th place at 18:40.40.

Aztec Invite Multis โ€“ Christina Chenault
While the distance team was busy in Irvine, Christina Chenault took a day-one lead in the heptathlon at the Aztec Invite. She has totaled 3,061 points through four events, picking up a pair of individual event victories. She opened the day with a seventh-place finish in the 100m hurdles, going 15.37 for 193 points. She then picked up third place in the high jump, clearing 1.64m (5-04.50) for 783 points. She capped her day with victories in the shot put (11.62m, 38-01.50) and 200m (25.42), earning 636 and 849 points in the events, respectively. She is 40 points clear of Niki Xydona of GCU, who is currently second in the competition.

Isa Videler finished fifth in the 100m hurdles, but did not end up competing in other events Thursday.
