October 29, 2023 | Women's Volleyball
BOULDER, Colo. – Iman Ndiaye scored a match-high 15 kills at a .448 hitting percentage to lead the UCLA women's volleyball team to a sweep over Colorado at the CU Events Center Sunday afternoon.
With the win, the Bruins (13-9, 5-7) defeat both of their Rocky Mountain opponents, including UCLA's four-set victory over Utah on Friday.
Set scores were 27-25, 25-20 and 25-21.
UCLA hit at a .333 rate as a team. Three of the Bruins' top four hitting percentage have come in the last two weekends of competition.
Middle blockers Anna Dodson and Desiree Becker were outstanding. The two each registered seven kills for errorless hitting percentages of .700. Dodson put up a team-high six block assists while Becker added three.
Setter Audrey Pak joined in on five blocks, bringing her season total to 49.0. She distributed the wall efficiently as well with 37 assists across the three sets.
UCLA was on the verge of dropping its opening set again Sunday, but a late 7-2 run snatched the first-set victory out of the hands of Colorado (13-10, 5-7). The Bruins faced two set points in that stretch which were nullified on kills by Cheridyn Leverette at the 24-23 mark and Ndiaye at the 25-24 mark. Another kill by Leverette brought UCLA's first set point of the match to the line, 26-25. Dodson quickly terminated an overpass to give the Bruins the 1-0 advantage.
UCLA totaled 17 kills on 24 attacks in the first set. Leverette and Ndiaye accounted for six and five, respectively.
Pak supplied UCLA its first lead past five points in set two with back-to-back service aces, making it 18-16. The Bruins gained separation with solid work at the net, recording three straight blocks for their next points to bring the lead to 23-19. Leverette and Becker each tallied two block assists in that stretch.
Becker saved her best set for last, recording four kills on five of her attempts. She led a pivotal 5-0 run with three kills which forced two Colorado timeouts, the last coming with UCLA up 12-7. Another 5-0 spurt with four UCLA kills – two from Dodson and one apiece from Ndiaye and Grayce Olson – and a Bruin block off the hands of Dodson and Pak denied the Buffaloes any chance of a comeback at 21-13.
Pak totaled four of her five blocks in the final stanza.
