No. 24 UCLA Finishes First at the FINIS UNLV Invite

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The No. 24 UCLA Swim and Dive earned the UNLV Invitational title on the final day of competition in Las Vegas. The Bruins won the eight-team field with a total of 1250.5 points, UNLV finished in second with 743 points, while Wyoming took third with 639 points.

Day 3 Recap
The dive squad kicked off the finals session in sweeping fashion, earning the top three spots in the 1m championship. Maya Salvitti took the crown with a score of 283.40, Eden Cheng finished behind her in second with a score of 275.30, while Molly Brascia was third, finishing with a score of 265.90.

Ashley Kolessar and Rosie Murphy continued the winning ways for the Bruins in the first swim events of the night. Kolessar took home her first win of the meet in the 1650 free, touching the wall in 16:37.00, while Murphy racked up another win in the 100 IM, finishing in 55.09.

As for the 200 back Mia Chang was the top Bruin in second place, finishing in 1:58.17, while Fay Lustria touched the wall in 1:59.26 to claim fifth.

In the 100 free, Emma Harvey earned her fifth win of the meet, winning the event in 49.27. Sarah Bennetts was the other Bruin in the top five, placing third in 49.94.

Later on in the 200 breast, four Bruins finished in the top five in the discipline. Eva Carlson wracked up another win for UCLA, touching the wall in 2:10.49, while Ana Jih-Schiff (2:13.90), Karolina Piechowicz (2:14.91), and Rosie Murphy (2:14.93) took third, fourth, and fifth respectively.  

In the final individual event of the meet, the Bruins earned another sweep, this time in the 200 fly. Paige MacEachern earned another win, touching the wall in 1:58.79, Amy Zhang took second in 2:00.21, and Mia Chang finished third in 2:00.61.

The 400 free relay capped the meet, and the Bruins earned their seventh win of the day. The group of Ana Jih-Schiff, Morgan Hawes, Emma Harvey, and Sarah Bennetts took the crown in 3:!8.28.

Earlier on in the day the Bruins had an impressive morning showing in the prelims session on Wednesday. The Bruins posted wins in four of five prelim events, and Rosie Murphy kicked things off by topping the charts in the 100 IM prelims, winning in 55.35.

Mia Chang and Fay Lustria took second and fourth in the 200 back prelims before Emma Harvey and Sarah Bennetts finished first and second in the third event of the day, the 100 free prelims.

As for the 200 breast, the Bruins earned the top four seeds for the final, with Ana Jih-Schiff taking the top spot in 2:13.06. She was followed by Eva Carlson in second, Karolina Piechowicz in third, and Paige MacEachern in fourth.

In the final prelims event of the morning, the Bruins swept the top three places for the second event in a row. MacEachern earned the top seed in 2:01.06, while Mia Chang took second and Amy Zhang finished third.

Day 2 Recap
During the Tuesday night finals session, UCLA dominated just like they did during the prelims. The Bruins won five of six events throughout the evening session.

In the first event of the night, the 200 medley relay, the quartet of Fay Lustria, Eva Carlson, Emma Harvey, and Ana Jih-Schiff took the win in 1:36.72, finishing almost three seconds ahead of the competition.

As for the first individual event of the night, the Bruins put four in the top four of the 400 IM. Rosie Murphy earned the win in 4:10.56, followed closely by Paige MacEachern in second in 4:11.21, Ana Jih-Schiff followed in third and touched the wall in 4:15.01, while Emma Matous rounded out the top four in 4:19.34.

In the third event of the evening, the 100 butterfly, the Bruins again swept the podium, putting three in the top three. Emma Harvey earned her second win of the evening, and her first idnvidual win by touching the wall in 53.18 seconds. She was followed by Amy Zhang in second who finished in 53.94, while Angela Quan took third in 54.35.

In the fourth event of the night, the 200 free, the Bruins earned their fourth event podium of the night when Sarah Bennetts took third in the discipline, finishing in 1:47.86.

UCLA had four athletes finish inside the top five in the fifth event of the night, the 100 back. Emma Harvey earned her third win of the evening by touching the wall in 52.98, while Fay Lustria finished directly behind her in second, in 53.47. Freshman Claudia Yovanovich took fourth in the discipline in 53.94, while Amy Zhang finished fifth in 53.98.

The 800 free relay capped off the night for the Bruins. The quartet Murphy, MacEachern, Hawes and Bennetts earned UCLA's fifth win of the evening. The four Bruins touched the wall in a winning time of 7:15.85.

In the morning prelims, the Bruins earned wins in all five events. The Bruins began the morning session with a sweep in the 400 IM prelims. Ana Jih-Schiff led the way for UCLA, finishing in 4:15.39, while Rosie Murphy finished directly behind her in 4:15.57 to take second place, and Paige MacEachern took third in 4:18.97.

UCLA dominated the 100 fly prelims, taking the top five positions into the finals session. Emma Harvey paced the Bruins and the field finishing in 53.15, Amy Zhang came in second in 54.19, Angela Quan finished third in 54.49, Joanie Cash took fourth in 54.69, while Fay Lustria placed fifth in 54.96.

As for the 200 free, Sarah Bennetts continued the winning ways for UCLA. The sophomore finished first in 1:48.33.

UCLA continued their dominant display in the 100 breast, securing the top four seeds in the morning prelims. Eva Carlson earned the top seed in 1:00.90, while Jih-Schiff finished directly behind her in second in 1:01.11, freshman Karolina Piechowicz took third in 1:01.21, while Bennetts finished fourth in 1:01.49.

Fay Lustria and Harvey closed out the prelims session with a 1-2 finish in the 100 back. Lustria topped the charts in 53.33, while Harvey finished right behind her in second in 53.42.

As for diving, the Bruins took part in the 1-meter competition on Tuesday and had two athletes place in the top two of the prelims session. Eden Cheng took the top spot in qualifying with a score of 293.20, while Maya Salvitti finished second, scoring 259.75 points.

Day 1 Recap
The Bruins dominated the finals session and started strongly in the 200 free relay. The quartet of Ana Jih-Schiif, Fay Lustria, Emma Harvey, and Sarah Bennetts set the tone by taking first in the event in 1:30.18, and beat the rest of the field by well over one second.

Ashley Kolessar continued the winning ways for UCLA. The junior finished first in the 500 free in 4:49.52, earning the second win of the day for the Bruins.

Rosie Murphy led a dominant 200 IM showing for the Bruins in the third event of the evening. Murphy took the crown in the event in 1:57.46, and the Bruins swept the podium in the event as Paige MacEachern took second in 1:59.05, while Eva Carlson finished third in 2:00.01. Mia Chang also had a strong showing in the event and finished fourth by touching the wall in 2:01.19.

In the final individual event of the evening finals session Emma Harvey, Sarah Bennetts, and Ana Jih-Schiff took second, third, and fourth. Harvey finished second in 22.58, Bennetts took third in 22.86, while Jih-Schiif finished fourth in 22.99.

In the final swim event of the night the Bruins took first in the 400 medley relay, UCLA's fourth event win of the night. The quartet of Harvey, Carlson, Angela Quan, and Jih-Schiff took the win in 3:34.44.

The dive squad also took part in the finals action on Monday night as Maya Salvitti, Eden Cheng and Laura Fisher all advanced to the finals session, with Salvitti topping prelims with a score of 306.70. In the finals session, Salvitti and Cheng earned UCLA's  11th and 12th podium finishes.  
During the prelims session on Monday morning, the Bruins earned wins in all three events. Ashley Kolessar kicked things off for UCLA with a win in the prelims of the 500-yard freestyle, touching the wall in 4:52.77.

Twenty minutes later Rosie Murphy, Paige MacEachern, and Eva Carlson took the top three spots in the 200 IM. Murphy finished first in 1:58.83, MacEachern took second in 2:00.87, while Carlson finished third in 2:01.29.

Emma Harvey and Ana Jih-Schiff capped off the prelims session on Monday with a first and third place finish respectively in the 50 free. Harvey took first in 22.46, while Jih-Schiff finished third in 22.87.
