Men's Tennis Edged 4-3 by TCU

LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA men's tennis team fell to No. 2 TCU 4-3 Wednesday afternoon at Los Angeles Tennis Center.
The Bruins (6-4) were narrowly edged in doubles play, with the final two matches reaching tiebreakers. The Horned Frogs (12-1) secured the first four points to clinch the decision before UCLA came out on top of the final three singles results. Victorious for the Bruins were Spencer Johnson, Jorge Plans Gonzalez and Giacomo Revelli. Jack Pinnington clinched the win for TCU.
Each doubles match concurrently showed a score of 4-4. The Horned Frogs' team of Sebastian Gorzny and Pedro Vives, ranked second nationally, earned a break of serve there for the difference in its contest with Revelli and Timothy Li. The 6-4 decision stood Courts 2 and 3 went shot for shot en route to tiebreakers.
On Court 2, the 40th-ranked TCU pair of Duncan Chan and Lui Maxted ran off four straight points in their tiebreaker with Spencer Johnson and Emon van Loben Sels for a 6-3 lead. Two points later, the Horned Frogs had the doubles point. The third court was left unfinished when the 7-6(4) result on 2 was finalized.
No. 87 Maxted defeated Gianluca Ballotta 6-2, 6-2 on Court 4 to make TCU's lead 2-0. Tomas Jirousek then followed his teammate's example on Court 5, downing Aadarsh Tripathi 6-3, 6-0. The top-30 matchup of No. 10 Pinnington and No. 28 Govind Nanda ultimately decided the overall outcome, as the former notched a 6-3, 6-3 victory on the top court.
Plans Gonzalez outlasted Chan on Court 6 to put UCLA on the board. The 6-4, 6-4 decision represented Plans Gonzalez's third win in a row.
Next to finish was Revelli, who earned his first 2024 victory against a nationally-ranked foe in comeback fashion. The 4-6, 6-3, 1-0(9) win versus No. 35 Pedro Vives on 2, in fact, marked Revelli's career best in terms of opponent ranking.
A marathon on Court 3 went the way of Johnson, who outlasted No. 53 Sebastian Gorzny 7-6(4), 6-7(8), 1-0(8). The victory was Johnson's second against a nationally-ranked player. He previously beat No. 73 Lodewijk Weststate of USC at January's Sherwood Collegiate Cup.
The Bruins take on their third top-10 opponent of the week when they host No. 10 Harvard Sunday at 1 p.m. PT.
