UCLA HOSTS CLEMSON IN REGULAR SEASON FINALEย
No. 11 UCLA wraps up the regular season on Saturday, March 16 against No. 27 Clemson in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom. The meet will be televised live on Pac-12 Network at 2pm PT. The Bruins will welcome first-year program Clemson to Los Angeles. The Tigers are coached by former UCLA All-American and NCAA Champion Amy Smith. Saturday's meet also marks the last home meet for UCLA's seniors, who will be honored in post-meet ceremonies. ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย

SENIOR SALUTE ย
UCLA will celebrate its four seniors and four graduates who will be participating in their final home meet. The four true seniors are eight-time All-American Chae Campbell, All-Pac-12 honoree Frida Esparza, three-time Scholastic All-American Katie McNamara and Scholastic All-American Sara Ulias. UCLA's graduate students are six-time Director's Honor Roll member Emma Andres, four-time All-American Margzetta Frazier, Pac-12 Academic Honor Roll member Chloe Lashbrooke and six-time All-American Nya Reed. Additionally, team manager Sarah Pulliam and student athletic trainers Grace Johnson, Silvia Parisi and Rita Thomas will be recognized alongside their fellow seniors. ย  ย  ย  ย  ย ย

A LOOK AT THE TIGERS ย
Clemson has come out of the gate running in its inaugural season, vaulting to an 8-3 record and earning the No. 2 seed at the ACC Championships. They are currently ranked No. 27 nationally and are No. 19 on floor and No. 21 on bars. The Tigers posted a high of 197.600 in their last meet against Air Force and are averaging 196.483 on the year. AAI Award nominee Rebecca Wells is Clemson's top all-arounder, having won six all-around titles this season. She has a season and career-high of 39.55 and high scores of 9.95 on beam and floor. The Tigers are coached by former UCLA gymnast and assistant coach Amy Smith, who, as a senior in 1997, led the Bruins to their first NCAA title. Smith was a three-time All-American and 1997 Pac-10 floor champion at UCLA. ย  ย  ย  ย  ย

IN THE RANKINGSย
UCLA ranks in the Top 12 all across the board, standing at No. 11 overall, No. 7 on vault and floor, No. 9 on beam and No. 12 on bars. Individually, Selena Harris ranks No. 11 in the all-around, No. 8 on vault and No. 9 on bars. Chae Campbell ranks No. 13 on vault, and Nya Reed ranks No. 21 on floor. ย ย

LAST TIME OUTย
UCLA's freshmen came through with strong performances on all events, but the Bruins had to count a fall on balance beam and were overtaken on the final routine, losing to Arizona State, 196.625-196.325, on March 9. Freshman Katelyn Rosen won the all-around with a 39.450 and vault with a 9.9. Alex Irvine won uneven bars with a career-high 9.9 and tied for fifth on vault with a career-high-tying 9.85. She also performed a strong exhibition beam routine that scored 9.825. Paige Anastasi stuck her Yurchenko layout full vault for a career-high 9.85 and hit a 9.825 in her exhibition debut on floor. Graduate student Nya Reed won floor for the second consecutive meet, scoring 9.95, and Emma Andres scored a career-high-tying 9.9 on beam to place second. ย ย

FRESHMEN BREAK OUT ย ย
The freshman class of Katelyn Rosen, Alex Irvine and Paige Anastasi broke through in a big way at Arizona State. Rosen captured her first two event victories of her career with a 39.450 in the all-around and 9.9 on vault and also scored 9.85 on bars and 9.8 on beam. She was subsequently awarded the Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for the third time this season. Irvine hit career-highs on both events on which she competed, winning uneven bars with a 9.9 and tying for fifth on vault with a 9.85. She also performed on beam for the first time in her collegiate career and hit a 9.825 exhibition routine. Anastasi scored a career-high on vault with a stick in the leadoff spot, and she also saw her first action on floor exercise, scoring 9.825 in an exhibition routine. ย

LEE-DOFF LOVE ย ย
Junior Emily Lee has mastered the leadoff position on beam since 2023 and has become just as solid as the leadoff on other events this year as well. On beam, she averages 9.868 as the first gymnast up and has scored 9.9 or higher five times, including a career-high-tying 9.95 Feb. 25 vs. Cal. On vault, she averages 9.850 and picked up her first-ever vault victory with a 9.9 against Cal on the first routine of the meet. She has stuck her Yurchenko full five times this year, including three of her last four. Lee has been the leadoff on floor in the last four meets and scored a career-high-tying 9.9 against Cal, her third 9.9+ score of the meet. She went 9.85 at Arizona State last weekend. ย

ANDRES ON FIRE ย ย
After seeing very limited action the last two seasons due to injuries, graduate student Emma Andres is having her most successful season in her fifth year. She has competed on floor in the Bruins' last six meets and is averaging 9.858, with two scores of 9.925, most recently Feb. 25 against Cal. She has competed on beam in the last nine meets and has scored a high of 9.9 twice - on her first-ever competitive beam routine at the Sprouts Collegiate Quad on Jan. 13 and last weekend at Arizona State. She has three other scores above 9.8. ย  ย  ย  ย ย

REED ALL ABOUT IT ย ย
Graduate transfer and six-time All-American Nya Reed has made a seamless transition into the Bruin program, competing on vault and floor in nine meets so far this season and ranking No. 21 in the nation on floor. She captured her first Pac-12 Specialist of the Week award on Feb. 6 after her winning performances against Arizona, when she scored 9.95 on vault and 9.975 on floor. She averages a team-high 9.922 on floor and leads the team with seven scores of 9.9 or higher on the event. Reed has three floor victories, including two in a row. ย  ย  ย

CAMPBELL CAN DO ALL ย ย
Known for her unmatched Yurchenko full vault and stunning performances on floor exercise, senior Chae Campbell has also seen success on uneven bars and balance beam this month, earning career-highs on both events against Cal and scoring 9.875 on both at Stanford. Campbell led off the Bruins' uneven bars rotation against Cal with a career-high 9.95, earning a perfect 10 from one of the two judges. Her previous career-high was 9.9, achieved just three times. The 9.95 also gave her her first career victory on uneven bars. Returning to balance beam for the first time since a sub-9 score at the season opener, Campbell showed her freshman year first-team All-America form, tying her career-high with a 9.925. Campbell has been outstanding as usual on vault, ranking 13th nationally despite competing a 9.95 start-valued vault. She holds a season average of 9.889 on the event and a NQS of 9.910 and has scored a perfect 9.95 twice this year and seven times in her career. She is tied for the team lead with three vault victories, most recently at Stanford. ย

HARRIS JOINS ELITE COMPANY ย
Sophomore Selena Harris became just the third Bruin ever to total three or more 9.95s in a meet in three consecutive competitions when she did so against Arizona Feb. 4, Oregon State Feb. 9 and Utah Feb. 19. The only other Bruins to ever do it were Jordan Chiles (2023) and Mohini Bhardwaj (2001). Harris already has the fifth-most meets with three or more 9.95s, with three. Jeanette Antolin holds the UCLA record with seven, followed by Chiles and Jamie Dantzscher with five and Kyla Ross with four. Also with three are Bhardwaj, Kristen Maloney and Kate Richardson.

Harris has continued to impress in her sophomore season, averaging 39.594 in the all-around, with a season and career-high of 39.775 set Feb. 2. She has hit all 91 of her routines in her short career. In her last five meets, she has averaged 39.610, with 10 scores of 9.95 or higher. She leads the team with 22 event victories, 28 Top 3 finishes, 22 scores of 9.9 or higher and 14 scores of 9.95 or higher. Harris has scored season-bests of 10.0 on vault, 9.975 on beam and floor and 9.95 on bars.ย

KATE THE GREAT ย ย
Katelyn Rosen is proving to be one of the top freshmen in the nation this season, averaging 39.417 in the all-around, with a high of 39.525 set Feb. 25 against Cal. Rosen has competed in the all-around in six of the last seven meets and on at least two events in every meet. She has posted season-highs of 9.95 on floor, 9.925 on bars, 9.9 on vault and 9.85 on beam and season averages of 9.8 or higher on all four events. She has won Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Week three times this year. ย  ย  ย ย

GIMME MOORS ย ย
Junior Brooklyn Moors has been one of the Bruins' most spectacular performers on floor exercise, earning scores of 9.9 or better in six meets, with three scores of 9.95, most recently at Oregon State on Feb. 9. Moors has two event victories on the year, winning floor at Oregon State and against Washington. The 2020 Canadian Olympian has competed on floor in nine meets and averages 9.872. ย  ย  ย  ย

CAMPBELL, FRAZIER, REED NOMINATED FOR AAI AWARDย
Chae Campbell, Margzetta Frazier and Nya Reed were announced as nominees for the AAI Award, presented to the nation's top senior gymnast. Campbell is an eight-time All-American and seven-time All-Pac-12 honoree. As a freshman in 2021, she won the Pac-12 floor exercise title and was named the Pac-12 Freshman/Newcomer of the Year. She has scored a pair of perfect 10s on floor exercise and has a total of seven career perfect scores on vault, including two this season. A four-time All-American and the 2021 Pac-12 uneven bars co-champion, Frazier has hit 140 of 141 routines without a fall in her collegiate career, including an incredible streak of 133 consecutive hit routines. She holds career-best marks of 39.550 in the all-around, 9.95 on uneven bars and floor exercise, 9.925 on balance beam and 9.875 on vault. Reed is in her first year as a graduate student at UCLA after competing at Florida from 2019-22. Reed was a six-time All-American as a Gator and earned All-SEC honors in 2022, along with WCGA Scholastic All-American acclaim in 2020. She has competed on vault and floor for the Bruins in nine meets this season, holding a Top 25 national ranking on floor. She has scored season-highs of 9.975 on floor and 9.95 on vault and has career-bests of 10.0 on floor, set twice in 2022, and 9.975 on vault. ย

NEW FACESย
UCLA welcomes a graduate transfer and four freshmen onto the squad in 2024. Nya Reed brings four years of experience at the University of Florida, where she was a six-time All-American with career-high scores of 9.975 on vault and 10.0 on floor. The freshman class is a mix of national team members in Sydney Barros and Katelyn Rosen and Level 10 standouts in Paige Anastasi and Alex Irvine. Barros is a three-time U.S. national team member and current Puerto Rican all-around champion. Rosen was a member of the 2020 U.S. National Team and the 2022 U.S. Classic floor champion. Anastasi is a four-time Level 10 nationals competitor and the 2023 Region 6 all-around, vault and bars champion. Irvine won a bronze medal on vault at the 2022 Level 10 nationals.ย

Reed, Rosen and Anastasi have competed in at least seven of UCLA's meets this season. Reed averages 9.922 on floor exercise and ranks No. 21 nationally. Her season average on vault is 9.814. Rosen averages 9.8 or higher on all four events and has highs of 9.95 on floor, 9.925 on bars, 9.9 on vault, 9.85 on beam and 39.525 in the all-around. Anastasi has a high of 9.85 on vault. Irvine has earned a spot in the competitive lineup three times on bars and hit a career-high and meet-winning 9.9 on March 9 at ASU. She has competed four times on vault, with a high of 9.85 twice, and once on floor at Stanford, where she scored 9.75. ย

BACK FOR MOREย
The Bruins returned the services of three 2023 seniors - Emma Andres, Margzetta Frazier and Chloe Lashbrooke - for their extra year of Covid-19 eligibility. Andres competed in three meets as a freshman in 2020 and in every meet in 2021 before an injury derailed her 2022 season. She came back in 2023 to perform a total of three exhibition routines, scoring highs of 9.850 on beam and 9.700 on floor in the regular season finale. She has earned a spot in the beam lineup the last nine meets and on floor in the last six. She made her competitive debut on beam at the Collegiate Quad and scored a 9.9, and in her first competitive floor routine of the season against Arizona, she scored a career-high 9.925. Andres is averaging 9.858 on floor. Four-time All-American and 2021 Pac-12 bars champion Margzetta Frazier is back in her sixth year with the program after redshirting in 2022 with a foot fracture. She went 133 routines in her career before her first-ever fall. Frazier's streak lasted from Jan. 4, 2019 to Jan. 21, 2024. Frazier has competed on uneven bars in every meet this year and has scored season-highs of 9.9 twice. Last year, Frazier finished fourth overall on floor at the NCAA Championships with a career-best 9.950. After missing all of the 2021 season and most of 2022 with an Achilles injury, Lashbrooke came back in 2023 to compete on floor in three meets and exhibition in two others, posting a high of 9.875 against Iowa State. She has made it into the competitive lineup twice this season and scored 9.825 in her season debut at Stanford. ย

OLYMPIC DREAMSย
The Bruins are without the services of Jordan Chiles and Ana Padurariu in 2024 as they pursue their Olympic dreams. Chiles is training for her second Olympic spot after winning team silver at the 2020 Olympics and team gold and vault and floor silver at the 2022 World Championships. She also recently won team gold, vault silver and all-around bronze at the Pan American Games. The nine-time All-American had a banner 2023 season, winning the NCAA and Pac-12 bars and floor titles and scoring five perfect 10s (three on bars, two on floor). She was also named the WCGA West Region Gymnast of the Year and College Gym News Sportswoman of the Year. Padurariu is training in hopes of qualifying for her first Olympic berth with Team Canada. A member of Canada's national team from 2015-20 and a World silver medalist on beam in 2018, Padurariu was on the 2020 Olympic path before an ankle injury changed her course. After a successful 2023 collegiate campaign, during which she scored career-highs of 9.95 on bars and beam, Padurariu returned to the elite scene, demoing at the 2023 Canadian National Championships in May and competing at Elite Canada this February.ย

Emma Malabuyo will also be pursuing an Olympic berth under the Philippines flag but is remaining on the team and competing with the Bruins between qualifying competitions. She finished second on floor exercise at her first World Cup meet in Cairo and earned the maximum 30 points towards qualifying and added 25 points in Baku last weekend with her fourth-place finish. She also earned 14 points at Cottbus and has 69 points to stand in second place in the qualifying standings. Malabuyo made history for the Philippines this past summer at the Asian Championships, recording the highest-ever placement by a Filipina gymnast with her silver medal-winning performance on floor exercise. She scored 13.166 in the event finals, just 0.067 off first place. She also competed in the balance beam final, placing fifth overall with a score of 12.166. The Asian Championships were Malabuyo's first elite competition since the 2021 U.S. Olympic Trials, after which she was selected as an alternate for the Olympic Games.

INTERNATIONAL FLAVOR ย ย
The Bruin roster is filled with gymnasts who have represented their countries in international competition. Emma Malabuyo now represents the Philippines but was a U.S. national team member for five years and an alternate for the U.S. at the 2020 Olympics. Brooklyn Moors competed at the 2020 Olympics for Canada and was an all-around and floor finalist at three World Championships. Frida Esparza competed for Mexico at the 2018 and 2019 World Championships. Sydney Barros qualified for the 2023 World Championships for Puerto Rico and was previously a three-time U.S. National Team member. Other U.S. National Team competitors were Ciena Alipio, Margzetta Frazier, Emily Lee and Katelyn Rosen. ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย  ย
