No. 2 UCLA Opens East Meets West with Two Ranked Wins

MANHATTAN BEACH, Calif. -- No. 2 UCLA (13-4) picked up a pair of dual victories to open the East Meets West Invitational at iconic Manhattan Beach Pier, sweeping No. 17 Grand Canyon (4-7), 5-0, in the morning dual and then posting a 4-1 win over No. 8 LSU (9-2) in the afternoon.
The Bruins improved to 7-0 all-time against the GCU Lopes and also improved to 17-2 all-time with their ninth-straight win over the LSU Tigers.
To begin the morning dual against GCU, redshirt freshman Ensley Alden and junior Natalie Myszkowski sealed the Bruins' win, defeating the Lopes' Mackenzie Harris and Jessica Drake in straight sets, 21-14, 21-12. Redshirt freshman Kenzie Brower and junior Jessie Smith moved up to court three to finish off UCLA's sweep with a 21-15, 21-16 win over GCU's Katie Keefe and Elly Collins.
In the afternoon dual against the Tigers, graduate student Lexy Denaburg and sophomore Maggie Boyd clinched UCLA's win on court one with a straight-set victory over Gabi Bailey and Amber Haynes, 21-10, 21-16.
UP NEXT: The Bruins square off with No. 4 Florida State (14-1), which was knocked out of the unbeaten ranks today by No. 6 California, 4-1. The Bruins face the Seminoles at 9:30 a.m. at Manhattan Beach Pier. UCLA closes out the East Meets West Invitational against No. 15 Georgia State at 1:30 p.m.
