LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA men's tennis team picked up its sixth consecutive win Thursday, beating UC Irvine 4-1 at Los Angeles Tennis Center.
The match was the Bruins' second of seven in a row on their home courts. They continue the homestand next week with contests against No. 6 Columbia (Monday, March 11), No. 2 TCU (Wednesday, March 13) and No. 8 Harvard (Sunday, March 17).
The standout performance from UCLA (6-2) came from Govind Nanda, who logged two victories. The result was clinched by Jorge Plans Gonzalez. Gianluca Ballotta added another singles point. The Anteaters (6-4) got on the board thanks to a singles victory by Noah Zamora.
Nanda and Jeffrey Fradkin teamed to collect their fifth win without a loss and fourth straight in dual-match play. The pair registered two breaks of serve around one by Brandon Park and Matthew Sah on Court 3 for a 6-4 decision. Then, on Court 2, Bruins Spencer Johnson and Emon van Loben Sels traded breaks with Andy Nguyen and Hiroki Sakagawa for 4-2 and 4-3 on Court 2, then secured the point with another for 6-4.
No. 28 Nanda raced out to a 6-1 first-set triumph and one-upped himself in the second for a 6-1, 6-0 victory opposite Enrique Luque Rico on the top court. Nanda has won four consecutive singles matches and is now 5-1 in dual-match play.
