CARLSBAD, Calif. – The UCLA women's golf team beat Texas A&M 3-0-2 in the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championships on Tuesday morning. With the win, the Bruins advanced to the NCAA semifinals for the first time since 2016.
UCLA, the sixth seed, will play Oregon, the seventh seed, for a spot in the NCAA Championship finals. The semifinals will get underway on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. PT from Carlsbad.
The other two semifinalists are No. 1 Stanford and No. 4 USC, making it the first time in NCAA women's golf history that all four programs are from the same conference.
Sophomore Meghan Royal clinched the win for the Bruins on Tuesday morning. She battled every hole with Blanca Fernandez Garcia-Poggio of Texas A&M but eventually took the lead on her sixteenth hole of the day and held on to win by one point on the 18th.
Both Natalie Vo and Caroline Canales won their matches earlier on for the Bruins. Vo won her match 3&2, and Canales won her match 2&1 to help the Bruins score the three points needed to clinch the match.
Kate Villegas and Zoe Antoinette Campos also took part in the quarterfinal round for the Bruins. The duo were both tied through fifteen holes with their playing partners from Texas A&M when Royal clinched the win for the Bruins.
