Bruins Draw at Michigan State, 0-0

October 20, 2025 | Men's Soccer

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The UCLA men's soccer team earned a 0-0 draw at Michigan State on Monday evening on the campus of Michigan State.

UCLA (3-6-4, 3-3-2 Big Ten) had eight shots in the game and recorded four corners, while Michigan State had 10 shots with four coming on frame in the game. Freshman Francis Bonsu and junior Tre Wright tallied two shots apiece to lead the Bruins offensively.

Goalkeeper Kevin Box kept his third clean sheet in his first four starts on Monday. The graduate transfer tallied four saves on the night, including a game-saving save with two seconds remaining in the game.

For Michigan State (5-6-2, 2-4-2 Big Ten), Jack Guggemos had two shots on target in the draw.

The Bruins started the game brightly and almost got on the scoresheet in the opening minutes.

Off a set piece Tre Wright had the ball drop to him inside the 18-yard box. The junior took a shot and beat the keeper, but the ball bounced off the crossbar and back into play, and the game remained scoreless in the ninth minute.

In the 17th minute, the Bruins piled on the pressure, as both Wright and Sergi Solans Ormo had their shots blocked by the Spartans.

Box came up big for the Bruins in the 30th minute of action. Off a MSU corner, the ball ricocheted out to Guggemos at the top of the box. Guggemos took a crack and Box made an excellent diving stop to keep the game scoreless heading into halftime.

After the halftime break the Bruins continued to control possession and the game. Ander Marticorena had another great chance for the Bruins but his shot in the 63rd minute flashed just over the crossbar and the game stayed knotted up at 0-0.

As the game entered the final five minutes of action, Bonsu had two more attempts for the Bruins. Bonsu dribbled into the Spartans' 18-yard box and cut inside of a defender before unleashing a shot that was blocked right back to him. After taking a touch to settle the ball the freshman had his second attempt go just over the crossbar, and the game remained scoreless.

With the game entering the final 10 seconds Michigan State launched a ball forward that landed kindly for Chimnosoh Okeke, but his shot was well saved by Box in goal with two seconds remaining and the game ended 0-0.

Up Next: UCLA returns home on Friday, October 24 to take on Rutgers at Wallis Annenberg Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 pm PT on Big Ten Plus.
