Margueritte Aozasa Departs UCLA for Other Opportunities
November 24, 2025 | Women's Soccer
Margueritte Aozasa, who guided the women's soccer team to the 2022 NCAA title in her first season as head coach, is departing UCLA for other opportunities. Aozasa's record at UCLA was 67-13-9 over four seasons, and she won two conference titles in addition to one national title.ย
Aozasa made an immediate impact on the Bruins after being hired in December of 2021, guiding her 2022 squad to the program's second NCAA Championship and to a school record-tying 22 victories. The Bruins began the year by winning their first 13 games, setting a new school record for best start to a season, and they held the No. 1 national ranking for the final nine weeks of the season. Aozasa earned her first of two consecutive Pac-12 Coach of the Year honors, and she and the UCLA coaches were named the United Soccer Coaches National Staff of the Year. She made history that year as the first rookie head coach and first woman of color ever to win a NCAA Division I Women's Soccer championship.
"Leaving a place like UCLA is not easy, and it is especially difficult to say goodbye to the team, support staff and fellow coaches that make up this exceptional Bruin family," said Aozasa. "These relationships go well beyond the soccer field, and I'm grateful to everyone for making this journey so memorable these last four years. I've had the privilege of coaching some of the most incredible women, and I will always be in their corner. "
"I'd also like to thank Martin Jarmond and Erin Adkins for giving me my first opportunity to be a head coach and for their steadfast support of this program along the way," Aozasa continued. "I have such a deep appreciation for UCLA and wish the Bruins the very best." ย
In 2023, Aozasa won her first conference team title and second conference Coach of the Year award as the Bruins finished the season with a 16-2-1 record. During UCLA's inaugural season in the Big Ten Conference in 2024, Aozasa's Bruins went 17-4-3 and ran through the conference tournament with three shutout victories to take their first Big Ten championship. UCLA finished the 2025 season with a 12-5-4 record and a team goals against average of 0.47 that ranked No. 2 in the nation.ย
"Margueritte was a transformative coach for this program during her time at UCLA," said Martin Jarmond, the Alice and Nahum Lainer Family Director of Athletics. "Her on-field success speaks for itself, with a championship title in each of her first three years, but her mentorship and wisdom have been just as impactful for so many of our student-athletes as well. We thank her for everything she has accomplished here and wish her and her family all the best."
Aozasa coached three UCLA players to five All-America honors - three-time All-American and 2022 Honda Award winner Reale, Reilyn Turner and Ryan Campbell - and 22 professional players.ย
On top of the team's accomplishments on the field, Aozasa's teams earned the United Soccer Coaches College Team Academic Award each year under her, and she produced a pair of Academic All-Americans in Reale and Ally Cook.ย
"We are grateful for all that Margueritte has given to UCLA," said Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director Erin Adkins. "As we begin the search of our next head coach, we are committed to carrying forward the proud legacy of UCLA Women's Soccer."
ย
A national search for a replacement, led by Adkins, will begin immediately.
