No. 18 UCLA Drops 80-72 Decision to California

SAN FRANCISCO โ The No. 18-ranked UCLA men's basketball team fell to California 80-72 in a nonconference game at the Chase Center in San Francisco on Tuesday evening.
UCLA (5-2), who trailed by as much as 13 points with 7:07 to go in the game, got within four points, 71-67, with 3:56 remaining when Jamar Brown knocked down a corner three. Unfortunately for the Bruins they could not complete the comeback and California (6-1) earned an 80-72 win. ย
Trent Perry scored a team-leading 19 points and Eric Dailey Jr. finished in double figures with 17 points and seven rebounds. ย
Cal extended its lead to 13 points, 69-56, before Dailey Jr. hit a three and Perry finished throughout contact at the rim to get the Bruins within eight, 69-61, with 5:49 left on the clock.
The Golden Bears edged in front 56-48 after a triple from Justin Pippen midway through the second half. Cal opened the second half 6-of-10 from the field and began the second half on a 16-5 run.
Tuesday evenings contest featured six lead changes in the first half. The Bruins took a seven-point lead 40-33 courtesy of a Perry and-one opportunity at the line. The Bruins then took a 41-36 lead into the halftime break.
UCLA battled back after withstanding a 20-4 Cal run midway through the first half, and took their first lead of the game since the 13:55 mark of the first half when Skyy Clark finished at the rim to put UCLA up 23-22 with 8:36 left in the half.
Cal went on a 20-4 run to take an 20-12 lead with 12:54 remaining in the half. Trent Perry then came off the bench and sank a three-ball to cut the lead to 20-15 with 11:07 left in the half, before Clark added another triple to push the Bruins within one, 20-19.
The Bruins opened the game on an 8-0 run and did not allow a basket on Cal's first five attempts from the field. Cal then made back-to-back triples to cut UCLA's lead to two, 8-6. Clark then made two technical foul shots to push the Bruin advantage to 10-6 early on.
The Bruins open Big Ten conference play on December 3 at Washington. Tip-off is set 8:00 pm PT and the game will be broadcast on the Big Ten Network.
