TEMPE, Ariz. โ€“ The No. 23 UCLA swimming and diving team earned a 150-150 tie at No. 18 Arizona State at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center on the campus of Arizona State on Friday afternoon. The tie is just the third time in school history that the Bruins have drawn with an opponent in a dual meet.

UCLA earned event wins in 12 of the 16 contested events on Friday, including both relays and both dive events. Senior Rosie Murphy also set a school record in the 200 backstroke to highlight the days events for the Bruins.

The Bruins opened the meet strongly, with a win in the 400 medley relay. The quartet of Rosie Murphy, Sarah Bennetts, Jada Duncan and Anna Wetteland combined to take the top spot in 3:33.18. The Bruins were followed closely by ASU's 'A' squad who finished in 3:33.30.

Applejean Gwinn earned a second-place finish for the Bruins in the first individual event of the day. The freshman finished in 9:59.68 to earn crucial points in the team category. Katrina Bellio then took third for UCLA in the 200 free. The redshirt junior came in third in 1:48.74.

UCLA's first individual event win of the day came in the 100 backstroke, where sophomore Claudia Yovanovich earned the win in 52.24, while Murphy finished second right behind her in 52.46.

Bennetts earned her second event win of the day in the next event, winning the 100 breast in 59.97. she was the only athlete to go under 1:00 in the event. As for the 200 fly, junior Ashley Kolessar took third in 2:00.04.

Duncan followed those performances with her first individual win of the afternoon in the 50 free. The freshman took the win in 22.02. She also earned the double, winning the 100 free in 48.72 and was the only athlete under 49.00 seconds in the event.

Eden Cheng won both the 1m competition and 3m competition on Friday. The senior earned the top spot in the 3m competition with a score of 307.43, and was followed by Molly Brascia and Laura Fisher in second and third on 3m. As for 1m Cheng took the top spot, scoring 264.90 points, while Brascia took third with a score of 247.20.

Back in the pool, the Bruins continued to stack wins. Murphy continued her strong day with a school record showing in the 200 back. The senior touched the wall in 1:52.39 to break her own school record, lowering it below the 1:53.00 mark.

As for the 200 breast, Bennetts added another win to her total, touching the wall in 2:11.15. Duncan then recorded another win for UCLA when she touched the wall first in the `100 fly, clocking in at 52.06.

Murphy added UCLA's 10th individual event win in the 200 IM, where she won the discipline in 1:56.11, before the Bruins' 200 free relay wrapped up the meet with a first-place finish in the event in 1:30.05.

Up Next: UCLA returns to action on Saturday, November 8, when UCLA takes on Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9:30 am PT.
