December 06, 2025 | Men's Basketball
LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA men's basketball team defeated Oregon, 74-63, in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom Financial on Saturday afternoon, as five Bruins scored in double figures.
ย
The Bruins (7-2, 2-0 Big Ten) led by as many as 18 points in the first half before Oregon stormed back in the second half. The Ducks (4-5, 0-2 Big Ten) cut UCLA's margin to three points, 61-58, with 7:38 to play. UCLA's defense held strong against Oregon, limiting the Ducks to five points and one made basket in the game's final seven minutes.
ย
Leading 61-58, the Bruins built their lead back with a jump shot from Tyler Bilodeau (at 7:18) and an ensuing free throw. The six-point lead moved to eight points, at 66-58, on a fast break layup by Donovan Dent with 6:57 to play.
ย
From that point, Oregon never closed the gap to any fewer than seven points. Leading by a 68-61 margin at the 5:30 mark, Xavier Booker grabbed a steal and had a thunderous dunk with 3:47 to play. That pushed the Bruins' advantage up to nine points โ at 70-61.
ย
All five of UCLA's starters scored in double-figures, led by Eric Dailey Jr.'s 18 points. Dailey Jr. and Bilodeau (14 points) each registered a team-best eight rebounds.
ย
"We started to miss a lot of easy shots and it happened in the second half," said Mick Cronin, The Michael Price Family UCLA Men's Head Basketball Coach. "The rim starts shrinking on us. It's good to have to go through that, but it sucks at the time. We got to be able to go all in on defense. I thought the two big keys to save the game were offensive rebounds after missed free throws. Jamar Brown and then Eric Dailey Jr. got two, off missed free throws. That's the stuff that, as coaches, you try to teach because those are controllable efforts and plays that win the game."
ย
Also scoring in double figures for UCLA were Dent (13 points), Skyy Clark (13 points) and Booker (12 points). Clark finished the game 3-for-6 from 3-point range, having nailed each of his first three 3-point attempts.
ย
Jackson Shelstad scored 20 points to lead Oregon. The junior guard from West Linn, Ore., shot 7-for-12 and 4-for-9 from 3-point distance. Takai Simpkins had 14 points in over 32 minutes for Oregon.
ย
UCLA raced to a 13-point lead, at 31-18, in the first half after a 13-4 run that was punctuated by consecutive baskets by Dailey Jr. The Bruins increased their margin to 17 points (38-21) with a 7-0 run, highlighted by a Clark 3-pointer and floater.
ย
UCLA led by as many as 18 points, at 44-26, with 1:32 to play in the first half after a Dent layup . Oregon closed the gap to 44-31 by halftime, scoring the final five points in the opening half.
ย
Dailey totaled 14 first-half points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field, while Clark had a perfect shooting half, scoring 10 points on 3-of-3 shooting from the field and 2-of-2 from the foul line. The Bruins shot 55.6 percent from the field in the first period, including 75 percent from beyond the arc. ย
ย
Oregon came out strong to start the second half, cutting UCLA's lead down to four points, at 57-53, with a 22-13 start.
ย
A bucket by Shelstad made it a 3-point game with 7:38 to play, but the Bruins answered with a 7-1 run to increase their advantage to nine, 68-59, with under six minutes remaining. Bilodeau scored five of UCLA's seven points in the run. The Ducks did not get any closer than seven points the rest of the half, as the Bruins totaled nine rebounds, including five offensive boards, over the final five and a half minutes to secure the victory.
