No. 3 UCLA Beats No. 2 TCU, No.11 ASU, 4-1, on Opening Day

HONOLULUย -- No. 3 UCLA (2-0) opened up the 2025 season on Thursday with a pair of 4-1 victories over No. 2 TCU (0-1) and No. 11 Arizona State (1-1) at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic at Queen's Beach. With the third-straight win over the Horned Frogs, the Bruins improved to 6-2 overall against TCU. UCLA improved to 11-1 all-time against the Sun Devils, winning their 11th-straight dual of the series.
In the first dual against the Horned Frogs the Bruins went up 1-0 on court five as redshirt freshman Harper Cooper and senior Sophie Moore took down Kaitlyn Bradley and Sofia Izuzquizaย in straight sets, 21-15, 21-13.
Freshman Alexa Fernandez and graduate student Tessa Van Winkle put the Bruins up 2-0 on court four with a 21-17, 21-15 win over TCU's Anete Namike and Olivia Clines.
Graduate studentย Peri Brennan and senior Natalie Myszkowski, who was on court five last year, clinched the win over TCU with a 21-17, 29-27 win on court two over Hailey Hamlett and Anhelina Khmil.
In a rematch of the AVCA Fall National Pairs Championship match, won the the Bruins, freshman Sally Perez and junior Maggie Boyd put the Bruins up 4-0 on court one when they took down Olympians Daniela Alvarez and Tania Moreno, 18-21, 21-13, 15-13. The Bruin duo showed great poise rallying back after dropping the first set.
TCU managed to avoid getting swept when Maria Gonzalez and Allanis Navas posted a 19-21, 21-12, 15-13 win on court four over UCLA'sย redshirt sophomore tandem of Kenzie Brower and Ensley Alden.
In the dual against the Sun Devils, UCLA put the first point on the board with the only match that went in straight sets as Perez and Boyd took down Ava Williamson and Daniella Kensinger on court one, 21-17, 21-15.
Then Myszkowski and Brennan made it 2-0 Bruins with thrilling 21-9, 19-21, 15-13 win on court two over ASU's Anya Pemberton and Olivia McElroy.
UCLA's Cooper and Moore clinched the dual on court five with a 21-17, 20-22, 15-12 win over the Sun Devils' Zoe Taylor and Kendall Whitmarsh.
ASU would avoid getting blanked when Ava Haughy and Arden Besecker outlasted Van Winkle and Fernandez on court four, 18-21, 21-18, 15-12.
The new pairing of Brower and Alden defeated ASU's Tori Clement and Ava Kirunchyk in three sets on three, 25-23, 19-21, 15-10.
