No. 3 UCLA Earns Two More Ranked Wins

HONOLULUย -- No. 3 UCLA (4-0) earned two more victories over ranked teams on the second day of competition at the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classice with a 5-0 win at No. 12 Hawai'i (0-3) and a 3-2 win over No. 5 Stanford (1-3) on Friday at Queen's Beach. With the 14th-straight win over the Rainbow Wahine, the Bruins improved to 16-6 overall against Hawai'i. UCLA improved to 23-3 all-time against the Cardinal, winning theirย second-straight dual victory in the series.
In the first dual against UH the Bruins went up 1-0 on court two as graduate student Peri Brennan and senior Natalie Myszkowski were met by little resistance from Julia Lawrenz and Sydney Amiatu, 21-14, 21-8.
Freshman Alexa Fernandez and graduate student Tessa Van Winkle put the Bruins up 2-0 on court four with a 22-20, 21-11 win over UH's Jesse Mann and Jasmine Wandeler.
New Bruin pair senior Reagan Hope and freshman Adelina Okazaki clinched the dual win on court five with a come-from-behind 10-21, 21-17, 15-11 win over UH's Kristen Serrano and Sophie Buschmann.
Freshman Sally Perez and junior Maggie Boyd put the Bruins up 4-0 on court one when they took down Sarah Burton and Caprice Lorenzo in a three-set thriller, 19-21, 21-12, 15-13.
UCLA'sย redshirt sophomore tandem of Kenzie Brower and Ensley Alden finished off the sweep on court three with a 21-15, 16-21, 15-10 win overย Alana Embry and Sydney Miller.
In the dual against the Cardinal, UCLA quickly fell behind 2-0 as Taylor Wilson and Charlotta Bell won in straight sets over Myszkowski and Brennan on court two and Chloe Hoffman and Clara Stowell defeated Fernandez and Van Winkle in straight sets on court four.
But that's when UCLA started to make its comeback. With all three remaining courts going to a third and decisive set, the Bruins' court one pair ofย Perez and Boyd took down Ruby Sorra and Brooke Rockwell in a three-set thriller, 18-21, 21-13, 15-9 to get UCLA its first point of the dual.
Then UCLA's Brower and Alden defeated the Cardinal's Kelly Belardi and Avery Jackson, 18-21, 24-22, 15-9 to tie the dual at 2-2.
In a winner take all set, the Bruin tandem of freshman Harper Cooper and senior Sophie Moore defeated Stanford's Emma Morris and Ashley Vincent, 21-18, 14-21, 15-13 to seal the 3-2 victory. Cooper and Moore led 12-10, but then trailed 13-12 after Stanford went on a 3-0 run. But the new Bruin pairing for 2025 answered with a 3-0 run to earn the dual win.
UP NEXT: The Bruins conclude play in Hawaii tomorrow with No. 7 LMU (4-0) at 10:30 a.m. PT/8:30 a.m. HT. Both teams are the only undefeated teams heading into the final day of the tournament. UCLA will end the tournament with No. 1 USC (2-2) in a rematch of last year's NCAA Championship dual at 3:30 p.m. PT/1:30 p.m. HT.
