Francesca Fiorellini Named Big Ten Women’s Golfer of the Week
February 27, 2025 | Women's Golf
ROSEMONT, Ill. – Freshman Francesca Fiorellini on the UCLA women's golf team was named Big Ten Women's Golfer of the Week, the conference office announced Thursday afternoon.
This marks the first weekly award of Fiorellini's UCLA career and the program's first-ever as a member of the Big Ten Conference.
Fiorellini registered her first collegiate medal at the Bruin Wave Invitational at Valencia Country Club on Tuesday, Feb. 25 with a score of -9, 207 (69-68-70). Fiorellini's 54-hole score set a new tournament low record, besting Pepperdine golfer Danielle Kang's previous mark of -8, 208 set in 2010.
Fiorellini, playing in her first event of the spring, opened the Bruin Wave Invitational on Monday with a bogey-free 69 in round one and followed with a season-low 68 in the second round later in the afternoon – the first two sub-70 rounds of her UCLA career. The top-ranked Italian amateur now leads the team with a 72.2 scoring average over 13 rounds this season.
Fiorellini's performance helped UCLA capture its first team title of the 2024-25 season. The Bruins recorded a total score of +6, 870.
Next Up
UCLA will play 54 holes over three days at the highly-competitive Darius Rucker Intercollegiate from March 3-5 at Long Cove Club in Hilton Head, S.C. The event will be televised on Golf Channel.
