March 23, 2025 | Women's Tennis
LOS ANGELES โ Behind its back-court trio, the 24th-ranked UCLA women's tennis team rolled to a 4-0 victory against Michigan State Sunday in Big Ten Conference play at Los Angeles Tennis Center.
Ahmani Guichard (Court 5), Olivia Center (Court 6) and clincher Elise Wagle (Court 4) won in order for the Bruins (7-5, 2-2 in Big Ten play), who also collected the doubles point without a loss. Each of the matches ended in straight sets and all three registered their first Big Ten singles wins. The Spartans dropped to 10-7 (2-4) with their loss.
UCLA established commanding leads across all three doubles courts. Guichard and Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer earned two early breaks of serve versus Issey Purser and Hanna Tsitavets on Court 3 and rode those to a 6-2 victory. Moments later, No. 3 Center/Kate Fakih prevailed in another 6-2 result, beating Matilde Morais and Oriana Parkins-Godwin to secure the opening point. Guichard/Lutkemeyer and Center/Fakih have won four and five consecutive matches, respectively.
The Bruins took five singles first sets, carrying its momentum over from doubles play. Guichard, who had her first three singles matches of league play abandoned, left no doubt Sunday. She dealt Tsitavets a 6-3, 6-1 defeat to double the team advantage. Center then joined Guichard in posting a two-win day, knocking off Parkins-Godwin 6-3, 6-2 on Court 6.
With each of the front-court matches in or nearing third sets, No. 64 Wagle closed out her deciding victory on Court 4. She sealed the 6-3, 6-3 result versus Morais with an ace.
