Men's Tennis Blanks Washington to Extend Winning Streak

LOS ANGELES โ The UCLA men's tennis team earned its sixth win in a row Sunday afternoon, defeating Washington 4-0 in Big Ten Conference action at Los Angeles Tennis Center.
The Bruins (8-6, 6-0 in Big Ten play) prevailed behind their back-court trio of Giacomo Revelli, Aadarsh Tripathi and clincher Alexander Hoogmartens, who all won in straight sets. The Huskies (11-6, 3-4) entered play winners of back-to-back contests, including a 4-2 triumph over USC Friday.
UCLA has now won all six of its conference matches played by a combined score of 30-1.
Hoogmartens and Giacomo Revelli seized the first three games on Court 1 en route to a 6-3 victory against 72nd-ranked Cesar Bouchelaghem/Dzianis Zharyn. The Bruin pair had not faced a ranked tandem previously. The match on Court 3 stayed on serve until UCLA's Gianluca Ballotta and Emon van Loben Sels broke Rohan Belday and Brett Pearson for 4-3. Ballotta/van Loben Sels would add another two games later to win its fifth straight and clinch the initial point.
Revelli continued to find success on the sixth singles court, recording his third win in the past week. The latest was a 6-1, 6-4 decision over Belday that increased the Bruin lead to 2-0 and gave the senior his second victory of the day.
Wins continued up the courts for UCLA, as No. 120 Tripathi was next to finish on Court 5. The junior dealt Ivan Sodan a 6-4, 6-2 defeat to increase his personal winning streak to four in as many decisions.
Completing the sweep was Hoogmartens on Court 4, where the senior ran his own winning streak to six (one match unfinished during the stretch). His 6-2, 6-3 victory opposite Suko came with No. 75 van Loben Sels nearing a straight-set win of his own on Court 2.
The Bruins quickly turn their attention to their road showdown with crosstown rival USC, set for Tuesday at 5 p.m. PT. The match at David X. Marks Tennis Stadium was scheduled for March 14 before rain postponed it.
