Women’s Rowing Outpaces Ranked Opponents at San Diego Crew Classic

SAN DIEGO – UCLA Women's Rowing had seven shells compete in the Grand Final Races at the San Diego Crew Classic on Sunday, highlighted by podium finishes by the Novice 8+ and Collegiate B 4+.
The first race, the V8+, started the day off in San Diego with a seventh-place finish in the Jessop-Whittier/Cal Cup Collegiate Invitational. The Bruins were in lane six and fought off Notre Dame in the first Grand Final of the day. The boat final crossed the finish line in 6:44.915.
UCLA continued its day of competition with a fourth-place finish in the Varsity 4+ Karen Plumleigh Cortney Cup. The Bruins finished three seconds ahead of No. 20 Notre Dame with a time of 7:32.015. UCLA also sped past No. 23 Southern California (6th, 7:35.882) and No. 24 Washington State (7th, 7:41.297) to take down three top-25 boats in the V4+ competition Sunday.
The Bruins' 2V8+ then took the water in lane six in the Grand Final for the Jackie Ann Stitt Hungness Trophy. The team finished in fifth place, six seconds ahead of Notre Dame, completing its race in 6:49.480.
UCLA's novice 8+ finished in third place in the race for the Laurel Korholz Perpetual Trophy. Their final time was 7:18.201, placing them three seconds ahead of the University of Victoria.
In the Women's Open 8+ Carley Copey Cup, the Bruins finished in fifth place with a time of 7:16.341. The team finished five seconds behind Notre Dame and 19 seconds ahead of UC San Diego.
Two UCLA shells competed in the final of the Women's Collegiate B 4+ competition. The UCLA B team finished in third place, seven seconds ahead of Notre Dame. The UCLA A team finished in fifth place, five seconds ahead of Washington State.
