Fiorellini, Canales to Compete at Augusta National Women’s Amateur

March 31, 2025 | Women's Golf

LOS ANGELES – Freshman Francesca Fiorellini on the UCLA women's golf team and UCLA senior Caroline Canales will compete at the sixth edition of the Augusta National Women's Amateur (ANWA) in Augusta, Ga. this week from April 2-5.

The first and second rounds of the ANWA on April 2 and 3 will be broadcast live on Golf Channel (10:30-12:30 p.m. PT) from Champions Retreat Golf Club. A cut will take place after 36 holes, advancing the leading 30 players and ties to the final round at Augusta National Golf Club on Saturday, April 5. Final round coverage will be produced by NBC Sports from 9 a.m.-noon PT.

Fiorellini, the top-ranked amateur from Italy and 21st on the globe, makes her second ANWA appearance this week. Fiorellini finished 9-over in a tie for 30th in her ANWA debut in 2024. Earlier this Spring season, Fiorellini won the Bruin Wave Invitational by 10 strokes (-9, 207) for her first collegiate medal.

Fiorellini's amateur career prior to UCLA was headlined by three major team victories in 2023 at the Junior Ryder Cup, Junior Solheim Cup and Patsy Hankins Trophy. At the Junior Ryder Cup at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club in Rome, she came back from 2 down with two holes to play, holing a putt from 25 feet to tie the final match in front of a raucous home crowd. She also won a foursome match and fourball match to help Europe to its first victory over the United States in seven years.

Canales is making her Championship debut this week. Last October, she finished T-12 in the second stage of LPGA Tour Q-Series to earn status on the 2025 Epson Tour. Canales departed from the UCLA women's golf program midway through the Spring season and will continue to work towards her undergraduate degree. Last season, Canales helped the Bruins to a runner-up finish at the 2024 NCAA Championships. She earned WGCA Honorable Mention All-America honors and finished third in the Silverado Showdown. Before beginning her collegiate career, she reached the quarterfinals of the U.S. Women's Amateur in 2019 and the round of 16 in the U.S. Girls' Junior in 2021.

Canales is the sixth different Bruin to have competed at the ANWA (Zoe Antoinette Campos, Francesca Fiorellini, Emma Spitz, Alesia Nobilio, Emilie Paltrinieri).
