Bruins Split Another Pair in Laguna Beach

LAGUNA BEACH, Calif.ย -- No. 2 UCLA (24-4) split another pair of dualsย against nationally-ranked teams on Saturday to conclude play at the Best of the West tournament on Main Beach in Laguna Beach, Calif. The Bruins opened with a 5-0 sweep of No. 17 Hawai'i (11-14) before falling to No. 3 LMU (26-4), 3-2, in the nightcap. The Bruins improved to 17-6 in the series history with their 15th-straight win over the Rainbow Wahine. But the Bruins fell to 20-6 in the series history against the Lions.
In the first dual against Hawai'i, Alexa Fernandez and Kaley Mathews clinched the Bruins' victory on court five with a 21-11, 21-19 win over Sydney Amiatu and Kristen Serrano.
In the second dual against LMU, the Lions pulled off a 3-2 upset. LMU didn't enter its lineup but the Lions clinched the win on court five with a 21-17, 17-21, 16-14 win over a new Bruin pair of Ensley Alden and Harper Cooper.
UP NEXT: The Bruins head to San Luis Obispo next week for the Center of Effort Challenge where the Bruins will open tournament play with these same Lions on Friday, April 11 at 1:05 p.m. PT at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex.
