No. 4 UCLA Falls at No. 1 Stanford, 14-12

STANFORD, Calif. โ No. 4 UCLA (16-4, 4-1 MPSF) saw its 10-game winning streak in MPSF play come to an end in a hard-fought 14-12 setback at No. 1 Stanford (17-1, 3-1 MPSF) at Avery Aquatic Centerย on Saturday afternoon. The Bruins fell to 40-62 all-time in the series history against the Cardinal.
A total of sixย Bruins scored against the Cardinal, paced by a game-high four goalsย from junior Anna Pearson. Junior Taylor Smith also scored a hat trick and added two assists to pace the Bruins in scoring with five points. Junior transfer Bia Mantellato was the only other Bruin to score multiple goals, finishing with two against Stanford.
Sophomore Lauren Steele got the start in the cage and went the distance, registering 11 saves and four steals while surrendering 14 goals.
The Bruins scored the first three goals of the game, but the Cardinal responded with a three-score run of their own to tie the game at 3-3 at the end of the first period. Stanford won the second quarter, 4-2, to build a 7-5 lead by halftime. The Cardinal won the third period, 4-3, to take an 11-8 lead into the final stanza. The Bruins won the fourth quarter, 4-3, to provide theย 14-12 final.
