Lutkemeyer Named Big Ten Player of the Week for Second Time
April 09, 2025 | Women's Tennis
ROSEMONT, Ill. โ Junior Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer of the UCLA women's tennis team was named Big Ten Player of the Week for the week of April 2-9, the conference announced Wednesday.
The Bruins earned a home sweep of Minnesota (April 6) and No. 19 Wisconsin (April 5) and Lutkemeyer was at the center of it, going 4-0 across singles and doubles matches. Wisconsin entered play with UCLA riding a 13-match winning streak and Lutkemeyer keyed a late comeback.
With UCLA trailing Wisconsin 3-2, Lutkemeyer on Court 1 delivered the highest-ranked win of her career. Tasked with taking down the newest ITA All-American Championships singles winner and nation's No. 5 singles player, Maria Sholokhova, Lutkemeyer did just that. The 7-5, 7-5 result, which was capped by a 25-shot rally, set up teammate Kate Fakih for the deciding victory moments later. Lutkemeyer went on to add a 6-0, 6-1 display versus Minnesota's Aiva Schmitz.
Lutkemeyer's doubles week alongside partner Ahmani Guichard was highlighted by clinching the difference-making opening point against Wisconsin. The pair dealt Taylor Cataldi/Tianna Rangan a 6-4 defeat on Court 3. Lutkemeyer/Guichard went on to beat Minnesota's Schmitz/Arina Valitova 6-3.
Lutkemeyer was previously named Big Ten Player of the Week on Nov. 13, 2024. There was a Bruin sweep of the conference's weekly awards Wednesday, as Fakih was voted Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the fourth time this season. Fakih has also been recognized twice as Big Ten Player of the Week, while Elise Wagle has been selected once.
