UCLA’s Season Comes to a Close at NCAA Championships

Carlsbad, Calif. – The UCLA women's golf team closed their 35th NCAA Championships appearance with a 12th-place finish (+19, 1,171) in the final round of stroke play at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa Monday afternoon. The Bruins shot their lowest round of the championships (+1, 289), but finished four strokes back of the eight-team cut line.
 
True freshman Angela Liu paced UCLA in her first NCAA Championships with a T-24 result. Liu was steady all four days, registering scores of 71-74-73-72 to finish +2 for the tournament.
 
Junior Meghan Royal, who was subbed in after the first day of competition, posted a second straight round under par to close with a -2, 70 in her final round of the season. Royal shot a collective 2-under (76-68-70) over the last 54 holes in her return to her hometown of Carlsbad.
 
Seniors Tiffany Le (+8, T-47) and Natalie Vo (+9, 297) both closed out their collegiate careers as Bruins today. Le carded an even-par 72 in the final round.
 
Stanford won the team stroke play title by 21 strokes with a score -27, 1,125. Joining the Cardinal in match play are Oregon, Northwestern, Florida State, USC, Arkansas, Texas and Virginia. Arkansas' Maria Jose Marin was crowned as the individual NCAA Champion after shooting 12-under (70-72-65-69) over the four days.

Women's Golf Makes Final Cut at NCAA Championships

UCLA made the cut for Monday's final round of stroke play at the NCAA Championships at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa after finishing the third round in a tie for 14th place with a +18, 882 on Sunday. The Bruins entered the day in a tie for 15th place and moved up one spot to secure advancement.

UCLA shot +5 (293) on the day, led by sophomore Meghan Royal's -4 (68). Royal got off to a great start on the front nine, recording five birdies, including three in a row on holes 4-6. She continued to shoot well on the back nine, with a birdie on 10 and seven rounds of even par. Angela Liu was steady all day, shooting +1 (73) and birdying on consecutive holes on 13 and 14. 

Tiffany Le completed her round at +3 (75), finishing with one birdie. Natalie Vo and Francesca Fiorellini each shot +5 (77). Vo birdied on holes two and five, and Fiorellini recorded back-to-back birdies on 11 and 12.

UCLA will need to finish in the Top 8 after Monday's round to advance to match play. The Bruins are 10 strokes behind eighth-place South Carolina. Stanford leads the field at -23 after shooting -18 on Sunday. UCLA tees off at 10:50 am.

UCLA in Tie for 15th After Round Two in Carlsbad

Carlsbad, Calif. – The UCLA women's golf team is in a tie for 15th (+13) after registering a +6, 294 in the second round of the NCAA Championships at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa on Saturday.

The Bruins need to place in the top 15 following's Sunday's results in order to make the cut for the final round of stroke play on Monday. After Monday, UCLA will need to finish in the top 8 to advance into the match play portion of the NCAA Championships.

UCLA currently sits seven strokes behind Texas and Oklahoma State (+5) who are in a tie for seventh. Reigning national champion Stanford (-5) is in first place after two rounds and owns a five-shot lead over Northwestern (E).

Senior Natalie Vo notched the Bruins' top result from the second round with a -2, 70 to climb over 20 spots into a tie for 24th (+1). Vo's 70 marked her seventh under-par round of the season. Joining Vo in a tie for 24th is freshman Angela Liu who carded a +2, 74.

UCLA begins play for the third round tomorrow at 11:50 a.m. (PT) in Carlsbad.

Women's Golf In Contention After Day One at NCAA Championships
May 16, 2025

UCLA completed round one of the NCAA Championships in a tie for 16th place (+7, 295) at Omni LaCosta Resort & Spa on Friday.     

Freshman Angela Liu leads the Bruins with a Top 20 finish in round one, shooting -1 (71) to stand in a tie for 17th place. Liu came on strong on her final four holes, recording birdies on six and nine. Maye Huang, also a freshman, shot +2 (74), shooting even par on the back nine and recording a pair of birdies on one and six. Seniors Tiffany Le and Natalie Vo each shot +3 (75), and freshman Francesca Fiorellini finished +6 (78).

UCLA finished the day just one stroke behind the four teams on the cut line at 13th place. Vanderbilt shot -6 (282) to take the team lead after day one. Individually, Tennessee's Bailey Davis leads the field with a score of -5 (67).

The Bruins continue play on Saturday, teeing off round two at 12:45pm.
