Hoogmartens Picked to Academic All-America® First Team
June 04, 2025 | Men's Tennis
AUSTIN, Texas – Alexander Hoogmartens of the UCLA men's tennis team earned his first career Academic All-America® selection Wednesday, College Sports Communicators announced.
Hoogmartens was voted a member of the first team. A Bruin from the men's tennis program had not made an Academic All-America® team since 2009.
From 1983-2022, men's tennis Academic All-Americans were honored as part of the at-large presentation. Michael Look (first team in 2009), Mathieu Dehaine (first team in 2008) and Tobias Clemens (third team in 2004) made the team prior to this year.
Hoogmartens, an economics major, has a 3.96 grade-point average. He had a standout senior season in 2024-25, beginning with a run to the NCAA Championships doubles quarterfinal round alongside Aadarsh Tripathi to earn ITA All-America recognition. Hoogmartens went on to log a team-high 18 dual-match singles wins, against just four losses. He went 22-8 overall in singles play. Hoogmartens' 7-5, 0-6, 6-4 result over Ohio State's Jack Anthrop in the Big Ten Conference Tournament championship match tied the overall score at 3-3, setting up teammate Emon van Loben Sels' deciding win. Hoogmartens was named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team.
