UCLA Men's Soccer Falls to UC Irvine in Season Opener, 2-0

IRVINE, Calif. – The UCLA men's soccer program fell in its season opener 2-0 to UC Irvine on Thursday night at Anteater Stadium on the campus of UC Irvine.
The Anteaters outshout the Bruins 12-6, while Wyatt Nelson made two saves in goal for UCLA and Sergi Solans Ormo had two shots to pace UCLA.
The Bruins' lineup included seven newcomers, three freshmen and four transfers. Francis Bonsu, Ian Charles, and Kian Concepcion all made their collegiate debuts, while Drew Brown, Oliver Roche, Sean Sent, and Sergi Solans Ormo all made their UCLA debuts.
In the opening half, the Bruins had the majority of the possession, but could not find the back of the net. Bonsu and Concepcion combined well down the flank, but could not find an end product. Solans Ormo had the Bruins' best attempt of the half, but saw his effort in the 34th minute go just wide of the post, and the teams went into halftime tied at 0-0.
Both of Irvine's goals came in the second 45 minutes of action. Their first came in the 64th minute when Isaac Powell scored the first, while Nolan DiCenzo added a second in the 82nd minute to seal the win for the Anteaters.
Up Next: The Bruins return to action on Sunday evening when UCLA hosts California at Wallis Annenberg Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7:00 pm PT, and the game will be broadcast on B1G+.
