Men's Golf Opens at Southwestern Invitational in Westlake Village

WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. – The No. 21-ranked UCLA men's golf team shot 22-over 302 on the first day of the Southwestern Invitational on Monday, hosted at North Ranch Country Club in Ventura County.
The Bruins currently sit in 13th place out of 13 teams. All 13 competing teams are currently ranked among the top 100 in the national Scoreboard rankings. UCLA is seven strokes behind 12th place Loyola Marymount (15-over) and eight strokes away from 11th place Colorado State (14-over).
Sophomore Baylor Larrabee had the best individual performance of the six Bruins in action on Monday. Larrabee shot 2-under 68 through 18 holes, tied for fifth place entering Tuesday's second round. He is one of eight golfers who has shot 2-under or better on the opening day. UNLV's Trevor Lewis enters the second round at 5-under 65 as the individual leader.
Senior Kyle An shot 4-over 74, currently in a tie for 42nd place. The Bruins' other three competitors in the team portion included sophomore Logan Kim (10-over 80), freshman Tyler Loree (10-over 80) and junior Alex Papayoanou (13-over 83).
Freshman Josh Kim, competing for UCLA as an individual, shot 1-under 69 on Monday. He is currently in a tie for ninth place on the individual leaderboard.
Larrabee's strong performance on Monday included four birdies and two bogeys. He finished 1-over 35 through the first nine holes and was three-under 33 through the final nine. Larrabee did not bogey on his final 11 holes, registering birdies on holes 10, 15 and 18.
UCLA's five team competitors will return to action Tuesday, Jan. 27, at 9:25 a.m. from the 10th hole. Josh Kim will begin at 9:34 a.m. from the first hole.
The Southwestern Invitational continues on Tuesday and Wednesday, from Westlake Village.
