B1G MATCHUP SUNDAY
No. 5 UCLA (6-2, 2-0 in the Big Ten) hosts Washington (2-4, 1-1) on Friday, Jan. 30 at 7pm PT in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom Financial. The meet is UCLA's annual Pride Meet, celebrating pride, inclusivity and the LGBTQ+ community. This is the second meeting between the Bruins and Huskies this year. UCLA opened the season at the Best of the West Quad in Seattle on Jan. 2, scoring 196.975 to take first place. Washington was third with 195.625.
ABOUT THE HUSKIES
Washington enters the week ranked No. 37 in the nation with an average team score of 194.769. Their highest event ranking is No. 27 on beam. Junior Chelsea Hallinan ranks No. 18 nationally with a 9.887 average and holds a season-high of 9.900. The Huskies are coming off a 195.225-193.600 dual meet win over Rutgers. Washington has several gymnasts returning home to compete in Southern California, including Kira Bolden (Reseda), Elena Brian (Fontana), Lana Navarro (La Verne), Thu Nguyen (Costa Mesa) and Olivia Oppegard (Newport Beach).
LAST TIME OUT
A short-handed UCLA squad posted a season-high team score to remain unbeaten in conference play after a 197.425-196.900 win at Michigan State. Jordan Chiles recorded the highest all-around total in the nation with a 39.875 that included her second perfect 10 in as many weeks, this time on floor exercise. Chiles won all four events and the all-around for the second time this season. She scored 9.975 on vault, 9.950 on uneven bars, 9.950 on balance beam to tie for first with teammate Ciena Alipio, and 10.00 on floor exercise. The Bruins had strong contributions from newcomers to the lineup. With illness sidelining a few team members, Sydney Barros, Jordis Eichman, Ciena Alipio and Ashlee Sullivan stepped in to fill lineup spots. Barros contributed 9.900s on her two events (bars and floor). Eichman made her collegiate debut and scored 9.825 on beam and 9.750 on vault. Alipio made her collegiate debut on bars and tied for third with a 9.875. Sullivan competed in the all-around for the first time and scored 39.200, hitting 9.775 on her first beam routine. UCLA hit season-highs on vault (49.300) and floor (49.450) and improved on its season-high team score for the third-straight week.
CHILES IS PERFECT AGAIN
For the second consecutive week, Jordan Chiles scored a perfect 10, this time recording the first perfect 10 on floor exercise by a NCAA gymnast this season. The 10 was her seventh on floor in her career and her 13th overall. She scored her first 10 of the season on Jan. 17 at home, sticking her Yurchenko double full vault to earn her first-ever vault 10. She now has one on vault, five on uneven bars and seven on floor exercise. Only three other Bruins have scored more career 10s than Chiles - Jamie Dantzscher with 28, Kyla Ross with 22 and Jeanette Antolin with 14.
Chiles is looking to become just the 15th gymnast in NCAA history to achieve a Gym Slam, which is a perfect 10 on all four events. Only two Bruins have done this - Kristen Maloney in 2005 and Kyla Ross in 2019. Chiles just needs a 10.0 on balance beam to joining the exclusive group. In her first four meets of the season, Chiles has earned a 10 from one judge three times.
FOURS UP FOR FOUR-TIME BIG TEN GYMNAST OF WEEK
For the fourth consecutive week, UCLA senior Jordan Chiles has won the Big Ten Conference Gymnast of the Week award. She is the only gymnast to win the award this season, and she has now totaled 15 career conference Gymnast of the Week awards, including 10 in the Big Ten.
Chiles recorded the top all-around score in the nation, posting a 39.875 in the Bruins' dual meet win at Michigan State on Jan. 25. She swept the all-around and all four events for the second time this season. Highlighting her day was a perfect 10 on floor exercise, the first 10 in the NCAA this season and her seventh career perfect 10 on floor. Chiles nearly had two 10s in the meet, scoring 9.975 on vault after sticking her Yurchenko double full for the second-straight week. She also scored 9.950 on uneven bars and balance beam. Chiles has 15 individual victories this season in just four meets. She has scored 9.900 or higher on 14 of her 16 routines.
IN THE RANKINGS
UCLA remains at No. 5 in the national rankings for the second consecutive week. The Bruins are ranked No. 4 on balance beam, No. 5 on uneven bars, No. 6 on vault and No. 15 on floor exercise. Jordan Chiles remains No. 1 in the all-around and is Top 8 on every event - No. 1 on vault, No. 6 on bars and beam and No. 8 on floor. Ciena Alipio moved up one spot to No. 5 on beam and has made her debut in the bars ranking at No. 24. Sydney Barros is also ranked for the first time, checking in at No. 15 on floor exercise. Tiana Sumanasekera remains in the Top 15 in the all-around, ranking No. 14.
DANCING AND GYMNASTICS QUEEN
Fresh off a third-place showing on Season 34 of "Dancing with the Stars" this fall, Jordan Chiles continues to surge, ranking No. 1 in the nation in the all-around and earning Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors for the first four weeks of the season. She kicked off her senior season on Jan. 3 with a show-stopping performance at the Best of the West Quad. Chiles placed first on all four events and won the all-around with a score of 39.725, UCLA's highest all-around score in a season opener since Kyla Ross also recorded that score in 2020. In week 2 at the Sprouts Collegiate Quad, she placed second in the all-around with a 39.575 and won floor exercise for the second-straight week with a 9.925. In week 3, she scored her first perfect 10 of the season and first career 10 on vault en route to winning the all-around with a 39.675 in the Bruins' home opener. And in week 4, she one-upped all of that by recording the highest all-around score in the nation - 39.875 - with a perfect 10 on floor, 9.975 on vault and 9.950s on bars and beam to lead UCLA to a season-high team total of 197.425.
Dancing with pro Ezra Sosa this fall, Chiles became the first female gymnast to make the "Dancing with the Stars" finale since Laurie Hernandez in season 23 in 2016. Chiles competed on the show while simultaneously training for the 2026 gymnastics season and taking a full set of classes at UCLA. The two-time Olympian and 2024 gold medalist enters her senior year as a three-time NCAA Champion, 16-time All-American and reigning Big Ten floor exercise champion. Chiles has scored 13 perfect 10s in her career - seven on floor exercise, five on uneven bars and one on vault - and 25 9.975s. She holds career-highs of 10.0 on vault, uneven bars and floor exercise, 9.975 on balance beam and 39.900 in the all-around.
ALIPIO MAKES BIG LEAPS AS SENIOR
After competing exclusively on balance beam her first three seasons due to injuries, senior Ciena Alipio has taken the leap to multi-event gymnast during her senior season, competing on floor exercise and uneven bars this season for the first time in her collegiate career. Alipio made her floor debut at the Sprouts Collegiate Quad on Jan. 10 and scored 9.800, and she improved her mark to 9.875 on Jan. 17 against Nebraska, tying for first place. She also tied for first on balance beam at that Nebraska meet, scoring 9.975 en route to her second Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week honor of the season. Last week at Michigan State, Alipio competed on three events, making her collegiate debut on uneven bars. She tied for third place on bars with a score of 9.875, scored 9.850 on floor exercise, then completed her day with a meet-winning beam score of 9.950. Alipio is now nationally-ranked on beam (No. 5, 9.944 average) and on bars (No. 24, 9.875 average).
Alipio is a two-time first-team All-American on beam and won the Big Ten balance beam title in 2025 with her first career perfect 10. Prior to her senior season, the only other non-beam routine that she had performed in college came in an exhibition on floor exercise in the 2025 season opener. As an elite gymnast, Alipio placed third in the all-around at her last international event, the 2022 Arthur Gander Memorial in Switzerland. She was also ninth in the all-around and sixth on floor exercise at the 2022 U.S. Classic.
BARROS RAISES THE BAR
Junior Sydney Barros, who missed all of 2024 while rehabbing a knee injury, made a huge splash last weekend at Michigan State, scoring a pair of 9.900s on uneven bars and floor exercise. She also scored 9.850 in an exhibition balance beam routine. Barros was making just her third appearance in the competitive lineup on bars, and she finished in second place behind only Jordan Chiles' 9.950. Her floor routine marked her competitive debut, and she finished in fourth place. Prior to last weekend, Barros had totaled just five exhibition performances on both bars and floor and had been in the competitive lineup just twice. She now ranks No. 15 in the nation on floor. Barros was the all-around champion at the 2023 Puerto Rican National Championships and placed eighth in the all-around at the 2023 Pan American Championships, qualifying to the World Championships. She was unable to compete at Worlds, however, after suffering a knee injury at the Central American Games.
EICHMAN MAKES SUCCESSFUL COLLEGIATE DEBUT
Freshman Jordis Eichman made her collegiate debut on Sunday at Michigan State, competing on vault and balance beam and performing an exhibition on uneven bars. She contributed a 9.825 on beam and 9.750 on vault and added a 9.775 exhibition on bars. Eichman had a slower start to the season after toe injury early in the preseason. She exhibitioned on beam in the season opener and scored 9.825 and stuck her Yurchenko full vault in the Bruins' home opener for a 9.800. Eichman had a successful elite season in 2025, competing at the 2025 U.S. Championships and finishing eighth on uneven bars. She also had Top 10 all-around finishes at the U.S. Classic and American Classic.
SULLIVAN STARS IN ALL-AROUND
Freshman Ashlee Sullivan competed in the all-around for the first time this season at Michigan State and earned 39.200 to place fourth. Sullivan scored 9.850 on vault, 9.825 on floor exercise, 9.775 on her first-ever beam routine, and 9.750 on uneven bars. She had her breakout meet on Jan. 17 against Nebraska, recording career-highs on all three events in which she competed and earning Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors. She won bars with a 9.900 and floor with a 9.875 and placed second on vault with a 9.900. Sullivan's event victories were the first of her career. In the season opener, Sumanasekera scored 9.950 on beam, the highest by a UCLA freshman in her collegiate debut in over 20 years, matching Tasha Schiwkert in 2005. Sumanasekera also became the first Bruin ever to win BIg Ten Freshman of the Week honors with her season-opening performance. In the home opener, she earned her first career victory, tying for first on floor with a 9.875. Sumanasekera ranks 14th nationally in the all-around.

Junior Katelyn Rosen has returned to all-around duty for the first time since the 2024 Pac-12 Championships. Rosen scored a career-high 39.550 at those Pac-12 Championships but missed nearly two months of competition in 2025 and did not compete on vault during the season.
DANCING AND GYMNASTICS QUEEN

She kicked off her senior season on Jan. 3 with a show-stopping performance at the Best of the West Quad. As an elite gymnast, Alipio placed third in the all-around at her last international event, the 2022 Arthur Gander Memorial in Switzerland. She was also ninth in the all-around and sixth on floor exercise at the 2022 U.S. Classic.
