No. 15 Men's Tennis Blanks UNLV
February 15, 2026 | Men's Tennis
LOS ANGELES โ The 15th-ranked UCLA men's tennis team extended its winning streak to three Sunday with a 7-0 victory against UNLV at Los Angeles Tennis Center. The match was added to the teams' schedules last week before being moved up one day due to forecasted rain.
Gianluca Ballotta, Rudy Quan and Emon van Loben Sels each won twice for UCLA (5-2), with van Loben Sels providing the clincher. The Rebels (5-3) pushed the Bruins in a tightly-contested series of doubles matches, but UCLA would go on to win five of six singles matches in straight sets.
Arda Kakaras and Illia Snitari made a statement early for UNLV, beating Spencer Johnson/Aadarsh Tripathi 6-1 on the top doubles court. For the second time in as many matches together, Quan and partner Bengt Reinhard were triumphant on Court 3. The pair beat Taiyo Hirano/Michael Kouame 6-3, turning all eyes toward Court 2. There, Ballotta/van Loben Sels continued to find success. The duo, which went 15-6 in 2024-25 and is now 4-0 this season, sealed the initial point with a 6-4 result over Marko Maksimovic/Illia Maksymchuk.
All six singles first sets were taken by the Bruins. Andy Nguyen surrendered just one total game in his matchup with Kouame on Court 4, coasting to a 6-1, 6-0 victory. No. 111 Quan was next to finish, increasing his personal winning streak to three with a 6-2, 6-2 display opposite Maksimovic on Court 2.
No. 35 van Loben Sels recorded his seventh career clinching win โ and second in three matches โ with his 6-4, 6-1 performance versus Maksymchuk on Court 3. Ballotta needed a tiebreaker to fend off Hirano in Court 6's first set, but the UCLA senior would take that and the match in a 7-6(5), 6-2 decision.
A marathon 10-point tiebreaker went the way of No. 118 Johnson, who has also now won three singles matches in a row, on Court 1. He got the better of No. 44 Snitari in a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0(13) showing that snapped Snitari's 14-match unbeaten streak in dual singles play. Finally, Chinlund picked up his team-best fifth dual singles victory. The latest was a 6-4, 7-6(3) result over Vitaliy Horovoy.
Next up for the Bruins is the latest chapter of their program's rivalry with USC. The non-conference showdown will take place Saturday, Feb. 21 at David X. Marks Tennis Stadium on the Trojans' campus. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m. PT.
