No. 5 UCLA (7-2, 3-0 in the Big Ten) travels to No. 17 Minnesota (4-2, 2-1) for a Saturday, Feb. 7 matchup in Minneapolis. The meet will take place at Maturi Pavilion at 4pm CT/2pm PT and will be broadcast on Big Ten Plus. This will be UCLA's first dual meet against Minnesota since joining the conference a year ago, although the teams met in three consecutive postseason meets a year ago (Big Ten Championships, NCAA Regional 2nd Round and NCAA Regional Final). UCLA is 16-1 all-time against the Gophers. ย ย ย ย ย ย
ABOUT THE GOPHERSย
Minnesota enters the week ranked No. 17 in the nation with an average team score of 196.305. The Gophers, who are unbeaten at home with a 3-0 record, rank No. 10 on floor exercise, No. 15 on balance beam and No. 19 on vault and uneven bars. Minnesota is led by All-Big Ten honoree Jordyn Lyden, who averages 9.865 on bars and beam and 9.845 on floor; two-time All-Big Ten first-team honoree Gianna Gerdes; and 2024 Canadian Olympian Ava Stewart.ย
LAST TIME OUTย
No. 5 UCLA made a statement Friday night, breaking 198 in January for the first time since 2003 in a 198.150-195.825 win over Washington. Jordan Chiles scored her third perfect 10 in under two weeks, and the Bruins set season-highs on vault (49.425), uneven bars (49.550) and floor exercise (49.700). For the second consecutive week and third time this season, Chiles won the all-around and all four events. She scored 39.875 to match the national season-high that she set last week and scored her second consecutive perfect 10 on floor. She also earned a season-high 9.975 on uneven bars and hit 9.950 on vault and balance beam. Ciena Alipio tied Chiles for first on beam and scored career-highs on uneven bars (9.950) and floor exercise (9.900). Sydney Barros also posted three high scores on three events, scoring career-highs of 9.925 on uneven bars, 9.900 on floor exercise and 9.850 on her first competitive balance beam routine.
CHILES PERFECT FOR THIRD-STRAIGHT MEETย
For the third consecutive week, Jordan Chiles scored a perfect 10, earning her second consecutive 10 on floor exercise. She scored three 10s in a span of 13 days, recording her first 10 of the season on vault Jan. 17, scoring the nation's first floor exercise 10 on Jan. 25 and then scoring her 14th career 10 on Jan. 30. Chiles now has one on vault, five on uneven bars and eight on floor exercise. She is tied with Jeanette Antolin for third place on UCLA's career perfect 10 list. Only Jamie Dantzscher (28) and Kyla Ross (22) have more. Chiles' eight floor 10s rank third on UCLA's list behind Dantzscher (14) and Katelyn Ohashi (nine). ย
Chiles is looking to become just the 15th gymnast in NCAA history to achieve a Gym Slam, which is a perfect 10 on all four events. Only two Bruins have done this - Kristen Maloney in 2005 and Ross in 2019. Chiles just needs a 10.0 on balance beam to join the exclusive group. In her first five meets of the season, Chiles has earned a 10 from one judge three times. ย ย
BRUINS EARN THIRD BIG TEN WEEKLY AWARDS SWEEPย
For the third time this season, UCLA won at least a share of each Big Ten Conference weekly gymnastics award. Jordan Chiles was named the Gymnast of the Week for the fifth-straight week, Ciena Alipio earned Co-Event Specialist of the Week honors, and Tiana Sumanasekera received her second Freshman of the Week award. Chiles, who is the only gymnast to win the Gymnast of the Week award this season, has now totaled 16 career conference Gymnast of the Week awards, including 11 in the Big Ten. She scored 39.875 in the all-around for the second week in a row - the highest score in the nation this season - and swept the all-around and all four events for the third time this season. She scored a perfect 10 on floor for the second-straight week and also scored a season-high 9.975 on uneven bars and 9.950s on vault and balance beam. Chiles has 20 individual victories this season in just five meets and has scored 9.900 or higher on 18 of her 20 routines. Alipio contributed two 9.950s and a 9.900 in UCLA's win over Washington to earn her third Event Specialist of the Week award. In just her second-ever collegiate uneven bars routine, she earned a leadoff 9.950 to place second on the event. She recorded her third consecutive balance beam victory with a 9.950, and then she completed her meet with a career-high 9.900 on floor exercise. Sumanasekera placed second in the all-around with a career-high score of 39.425 and earned career-best marks on vault (9.875, third place) and floor exercise (9.925, tied for third place) in the win over Washington. The five-time U.S. National Team member ranks No. 12 in the nation, No. 3 in the Big Ten and No. 2 amongst all freshmen in the all-around with a 39.375 average.ย
IN THE RANKINGS ย
UCLA remains at No. 5 in the national rankings for the third consecutive week. The Bruins are ranked in the Top 10 on all four events - No. 4 on vault, uneven bars and balance beam and No. 9 on floor exercise. Jordan Chiles remains No. 1 in the all-around and is Top 5 on every event - No. 2 on vault, No. 4 on bars and floor and No. 5 on beam. Ciena Alipio is ranked in the Top 10 on two events - No. 3 on beam and No. 7 on bars. ย Sydney Barros also ranks on two events, checking in at No. 20 on floor and No. 23 on bars. Tiana Sumanasekera moved up two spots to No. 12 in the all-around rankings as is the second-highest ranked freshman in the nation. ย
BEST SHOW IN LA AND NATION-WIDE ย
UCLA Gymnastics is proving to be not only the Best Show in LA, but also nation-wide. The Bruins have been a part of two meets with record-setting attendance - at Washington Jan. 2 (8,403) and at Michigan State Jan. 25 (9,887), and Saturday's meet at Minnesota is a sellout. UCLA's home opener on Jan. 13 was contested in front of 7,814 fans, a new record for a UCLA home opener. The Bruins' Feb. 22 meet at Illinois was moved to the Chase Center in anticipation of a large crowd. Last season, the Bruins competed in front of school record crowds at Maryland (7,287) and Ohio State (3,695) and in front of a sold-out crowd of 15,558 at Utah, as well as a crowd of 11,314 at Michigan. ย ย ย ย
DANCING AND GYMNASTICS QUEEN ย
Fresh off a third-place showing on Season 34 of "Dancing with the Stars" this fall, Jordan Chiles has dominated the NCAA Gymnastics season, ranking No. 1 in the nation in the all-around and earning Big Ten Gymnast of the Week honors for the first five weeks of the season. She kicked off her senior season on Jan. 3 with a show-stopping performance at the Best of the West Quad. Chiles placed first on all four events and won the all-around with a score of 39.725, UCLA's highest all-around score in a season opener since Kyla Ross also recorded that score in 2020. In week 2 at the Sprouts Collegiate Quad, she placed second in the all-around with a 39.575 and won floor exercise for the second-straight week with a 9.925. In week 3, she scored her first perfect 10 of the season and first career 10 on vault en route to winning the all-around with a 39.675 in the Bruins' home opener. And in week 4, she one-upped all of that by recording the highest all-around score in the nation - 39.875 - with a perfect 10 on floor, 9.975 on vault and 9.950s on bars and beam to lead UCLA to a season-high team total of 197.425. She matched her all-around score and scored another perfect 10 five days later, leading UCLA to its first 198 of the season (198.150).
ย
Dancing with pro Ezra Sosa this fall, Chiles became the first female gymnast to make the "Dancing with the Stars" finale since Laurie Hernandez in season 23 in 2016. Chiles competed on the show while simultaneously training for the 2026 gymnastics season and taking a full set of classes at UCLA. The two-time Olympian and 2024 gold medalist enters her senior year as a three-time NCAA Champion, 16-time All-American and reigning Big Ten floor exercise champion. Chiles has scored 14 perfect 10s in her career - eight on floor exercise, five on uneven bars and one on vault - and 26 9.975s. She holds career-highs of 10.0 on vault, uneven bars and floor exercise, 9.975 on balance beam and 39.900 in the all-around. ย ย ย ย ย
FROM BEAMER TO THREE-EVENT STAR ย
After competing exclusively on balance beam her first three seasons due to injuries, senior Ciena Alipio has taken the leap to multi-event star during her senior season, competing on floor exercise and uneven bars this season for the first time in her collegiate career. Alipio made her floor debut at the Sprouts Collegiate Quad on Jan. 10 and scored 9.800, and she improved her mark to 9.875 on Jan. 17 against Nebraska, tying for first place. She also tied for first on balance beam at that Nebraska meet, scoring 9.975. At Michigan State on Jan. 25, Alipio competed on three events for the first time, making her collegiate debut on uneven bars. She tied for third place on bars with a score of 9.875, scored 9.850 on floor exercise, then completed her day with a meet-winning beam score of 9.950. She improved on those marks five days later against Washington, scoring a leadoff 9.950 on bars, a meet-winning 9.950 on beam and a career-high 9.900 on floor to earn Big Ten Event Specialist of the Week honors for the third time. Alipio is ranked in the Top 10 on both beam (No. 3, 9.945 average) and bars (No. 7, 9.912 average).ย
Alipio is a two-time first-team All-American on beam and won the Big Ten balance beam title in 2025 with her first career perfect 10. Prior to her senior season, the only other non-beam routine that she had performed in college came in an exhibition on floor exercise in the 2025 season opener. As an elite gymnast, Alipio placed third in the all-around at her last international event, the 2022 Arthur Gander Memorial in Switzerland. She was also ninth in the all-around and sixth on floor exercise at the 2022 U.S. Classic.
BARROS RAISES THE BAR ย
Junior Sydney Barros, who missed all of 2024 while rehabbing a knee injury, has made a huge splash the last two meets, delivering four scores of 9.900 or better in her first extensive competition experience. On Jan. 25 at Michigan State, she scored a pair of 9.900s on uneven bars and floor exercise and also scored 9.850 in an exhibition balance beam routine. Barros was making just her third appearance in the competitive lineup on bars, and she finished in second place behind only Jordan Chiles' 9.950. Her floor routine marked her competitive debut, and she finished in fourth place. In the Bruins' home meet against Washington Jan. 30, she competed on three events and scored a career-highs on bars (9.925) and floor (9.900) and earned a 9.850 in her beam debut. Prior to this season, Barros had been in the competitive lineup just once. She now ranks No. 20 in the nation on floor. Barros was the all-around champion at the 2023 Puerto Rican National Championships and placed eighth in the all-around at the 2023 Pan American Championships, qualifying to the World Championships. She was unable to compete at Worlds, however, after suffering a knee injury at the Central American Games. ย ย ย ย ย
SENIOR STRIDES FROM ANYIMI ย
Madisyn Anyimi is having a senior glow-up, sticking her vault in two consecutive meets and scoring her first-ever 9.900 on Jan. 30 to place second, her first career Top 3 finish on an event. Anyimi has competed on vault in four of the Bruins' five meets and has also seen action in exhibition spots on uneven bars and floor exercise. She hit a 9.850 on uneven bars in an exhibition performance at the Best of the West Quad Jan. 2, tying her career-high mark on the event, and she bested her floor career-high mark with a 9.875 in exhibition against Washington on Jan. 30.
Classic.
