March 08, 2026 | Women's Tennis
INDIAN WELLS, Calif. โ Senior Anne-Christine Lutkemeyer of the UCLA women's tennis team was named on Sunday a 2026 finalist for the prestigious Universal Tennis Foundation Hurd Awards. The announcement was made by the Universal Tennis Foundation during Tennis Channel's live coverage of the BNP Paribas Open.
As one of two finalists (one American female and one American male), Lutkemeyer receives a $40,000 grant that supports her transition from college to international competition. One American female and one American male are selected Hurd Award champions and awarded $100,000 grants. Distribution of grants will begin upon completion of the NCAA season in May 2026.
"Tennis has played such a significant role in my life, so it means the most to be considered this year's Hurd Award finalist," said Lutkemeyer. "I want to thank my family, coaches and teammates, as well as everyone behind the scenes who has been a part of my tennis journey.
"I am truly grateful to the Universal Tennis Foundation for supporting me as I transition into my professional career, and it is an honor to represent such a prestigious organization. I am absolutely thrilled for this next chapter after my final season with the Bruins."
Lutkemeyer sits at No. 40 in the ITA singles rankings despite having just six finished matches on her record. Five of those results have been victories against nationally-ranked players. She has won a pair of Big Ten Player of the Week awards as the Bruins have climbed to their current No. 6 placement in the ITA team rankings.
The Irvine, Calif. native's breakout 2025 culminated in first-team All-Big Ten recognition and the ITA Southwest Region's Player to Watch award. She also qualified for her first NCAA Championships singles tournament and achieved a career-high singles ranking of No. 16 while spending a majority of her time on Court 1. Lutkemeyer holds career records of 72-32 in singles and 74-23 in doubles.
Lutkemeyer has already achieved success on the ITF World Tennis Tour. The summer of 2025 saw her reach the W35 Berkeley, Calif. singles semifinals and post singles runner-up finishes at the W15 Lu'an, China and W15 Lakewood, Calif. events. All three showings came after advancing out of qualifying rounds. She also won the Lu'an doubles title alongside former UCLA teammate Tian Fangran.
The Universal Tennis Foundation Hurd Awards were reestablished in partnership with the Hurd Family to honor the late Mark Hurd and his commitment to and support of college tennis in the United States. Mark Hurd was passionate about tennis, played for Baylor University, and was instrumental both personally and as the CEO of Oracle in creating opportunities for American college players to develop their games and transition to competing beyond college.
Previous Hurd Award champions and finalists on the women's side include Mary Stoiana of Texas A&M (2025 champion), Amelia Horner of UC Santa Barbara (2025 finalist), Fiona Crawley of North Carolina (2024 champion), Chloe Beck of Duke (2024 finalist), Peyton Stearns of Texas (2023), Sophie Whittle of Gonzaga (2020), Jamie Loeb of North Carolina (2019), Francesca Di Lorenzo of Ohio State (2018) and Danielle Collins of Virginia (2017).
