Bruins Currently in Sixth Place at The Thunderbird Collegiate

PHOENIX – The UCLA men's golf team finished in sixth place after the first two rounds of The Thunderbird Collegiate on Friday at Papago Golf Club.
The Bruins carded 6-under 562 through the first two rounds, sitting one stroke behind fifth-place Colorado and 12 strokes away from the third-place squads, San Diego and host Arizona State. Nine programs are competing in this season's field in Phoenix.
Bruins' freshman Tyler Loree had the strongest individual performance for UCLA on Friday. He finished 4-uner 138 through two rounds, posting round scores of 2-under 69 in each round. Loree will enter Saturday's third and final round in a tie for 12th place.
UCLA senior Kyle An and sophomore Baylor Larrabee are currently tied for 22nd place, having carded 1-under 141 through the first 36 holes. Both golfers for UCLA shot 2-under 69 in the first round and 1-over 72 in the second round.
Junior Alex Papayoanou shot 1-over 143, while freshman Josh Kim finished Friday's action at 2-over 144.
Loree will enter Saturday's third round sitting five strokes behind the individual leader, Johnnie Clark of New Mexico (9-under 133). Long Beach State's Alejandro De Castro is in second place, at 8-under 134. Four golfers are tied for third place.
UCLA senior Matthew Yamin shot 3-over 145 on Friday, competing as an individual.
The Bruins will return to action on Saturday, April 11, at 7 a.m.
