No. 1 UCLA Sweeps Menlo College 3-0

ATHERTON, Calif. โ The UCLA men's volleyball program earned a 3-0 sweep at Menlo College in an MPSF Conference match on Sunday afternoon. Set scores were 25-23, 25-16, and 25-16.
For the match UCLA (23-1, 11-1 MPSF) hit .347 and limited Menlo (3-18, 2-10 MPSF) to a .127 hitting percentage. Six Bruins finished with at least four kills on Sunday as sophomore outside hitter Sean Kelly recorded eight kills and hit .400 on the day.
Setters Andrew Rowan and Trent Taliaferro both saw playing time, as Rowan dished out 17 assists, while Taliaferro added 13 assists.
The two sides traded points throughout the opening set, as UCLA took a 12-11 lead midway through the set. Kelly then added a kill through the middle to make it 13-12.
Kelly and Wong Diallo combined for the block to make it 15-13 in favor of the Bruins. An ace from Thorne then put UCLA in front by three, 16-13.
UCLA made it 20-18 when Kelly recorded his fourth kill of the set. Menlo then tied the set at 22-22 before a kill from Thorne and an attack error from Menlo made it set point in favor of the Bruins, forcing a Menlo timeout.
A Thorne service error made it 24-23, before Rowan found Wong Diallo through the middle to end the set, 25-23, giving UCLA a 1-0 lead in the match.
As for the second set, Menlo opened up a 2-0 lead before a kill from Rama and a block from Rama and Thorne tied the set at 2-2.
UCLA then opened up a 7-4 advantage when Rama recorded a service ace, his second of the match. He then added back-to-back kills to push UCLA in front, 12-6, forcing a Menlo timeout.
The Bruins extended the lead to 17-7 when Kelly recorded an ace. Grayson Bradford came in and made it 21-14 with a service ace for the Bruins.
A kill from Kelly, followed by an attack error from Menlo made it 24-16 in favor of UCLA. Decker then hammered home a kill to take the second set 25-16, giving UCLA a 2-0 lead heading to the third set.
UCLA opened up a 5-1 advantage to begin the third set. Menlo went on a run of their own to make it 5-5 before a service error and a kill from Luca Curci pushed UCLA in front by two, 7-5.
After Menlo tied the set at 8-8, the Bruins went on a 3-0 run to go in front by three, 11-8. During that 3-0 run Christopher Hersh recorded a service ace and Wong Diallo recorded his fourth kill of the set.
A kill from Taliaferro made it 15-10 in favor of the Bruins. Bradford and Hersh then combined to make it 19-13, before Back-to-back kills from Curci pushed the Bruins in front 23-15.
Two points later, the Bruins clinched the set 25-16, and the match 3-0, courtesy of a Menlo service error.
Up Next: UCLA returns to Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom Financial to conclude the regular season with two matches against BYU. The Bruins will host the Cougars on Thursday at 7 pm PT and Saturday at 5 pm PT. Both matches will be streamed on B1G+.
