ROSEMONT, Ill. โ UCLA's Spencer Johnson, Rudy Quan and Emon van Loben Sels were recognized Thursday by the Big Ten Conference, which announced its year-end men's tennis awards. Quan and van Loben Sels, who was also named a Sportsmanship Honoree, were voted onto the All-Big Ten First Team. Johnson made the All-Big Ten Second Team.
Quan earned his second first-team designation in as many years, while van Loben Sels was elevated from his second-team status a year ago. Johnson's selection marked a first in his career. The sportsmanship award, which is presented annually to one player from each member team, was also collected by van Loben Sels in 2025.
Quan holds a 12-2 dual singles record across Courts 1 (3-1) and 2 (9-1). He has clinched three Bruin wins, with two of them coming in non-conference road thrillers. Quan prevailed 6-0, 3-6, 6-4 over Edward Winter to seal a 4-2 victory at No. 24 Pepperdine (Feb. 7) and overcame Vincent Marysko 3-6, 7-6(2), 7-5 for the difference in a 4-3 upset at No. 9 San Diego (Feb. 26). Quan went on to log a 6-1 singles record in Big Ten matches.
The team leader in total singles (21) and doubles (23) victories, van Loben Sels has been ranked in the top 40 of the ITA singles rankings all season. He has also held a top-35 spot in the doubles rankings, alongside partner Johnson, since March 3. At Michigan State, van Loben Sels notched the highest ranked singles win of his career with a 6-2, 6-2 decision over No. 11 Matthew Forbes (March 29). In addition to his doubles success with van Loben Sels, Johnson has been a force atop the singles lineup. Johnson possesses a 14-8 overall singles record that includes a 9-5 dual showing.
