Sahir West Named to Preseason Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. โ UCLA defensive lineman Sahir West was one of 42 candidates named to the Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List this week.
Named after former NFL Hall of Fame star Ronnie Lott, The Lott Trophy annually goes to the Defensive IMPACT Player of the Year, a player who has had the biggest impact on his team both on and off the field.ย IMPACT stands for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.
UCLA has had a pair of Lott IMPACT winners in linebackers Anthony Barr (2013) and Erick Kendricks (2014). Edge rusher Laiatu Latu was also a finalist for the award in 2023.
The annual winner is selected by a national voter panel, consisting of former winners, members of the media, coaches, and members of the Board of Directors of The IMPACT Foundation.
The winner will be announced at a gala black-tie event at The Pacific Club on Dec. 9, 2026.
West, a rising sophomore, is set to make his Bruin debut this fall after transferring in from James Madison University. West had a breakout freshman campaign in 2025 at JMU, under current Bruin head coach Bob Chesney, earning Sun Belt Conference Freshman of the Year and Freshman All-America honors. He was second among FBS freshmen with 7.0 sacks on the season,ย including a 5.5 tackle-for-loss, 3.0 sack performance against Troy in the Sun Belt Championship Game. He totaled 45 tackles and 14.0 tackles for loss overall.
