UCLA Defeats Chivas USA, 2-1, In Spring Scrimmage

March 5, 2011
The UCLA men's soccer team defeated its second professional team in as many spring games, downing Major League Soccer's Chivas USA, 2-1, on Saturday evening at The Home Depot Center. Junior defender Andy Rose scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick in the 76th minute.
Chivas USA took a 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute on a goal by Alan Gordon and nearly went up 2-0 in the 35th minute when former Bruin Jimmy Conrad had a shot cleared off the line by a UCLA defender. The Bruins equalized a few minutes later on a goal by sophomore Chandler Hoffman off a corner kick.
The Bruins, which return all 11 starters from last year's NCAA Quarterfinalist squad, are now 2-0 on the spring season, with both victories coming against pro teams. UCLA beat USL squad LA Blues last month, 4-1. The Bruins' next spring game is a closed scrimmage on Wednesday, Mar. 9 against the Los Angeles Galaxy.
