Appeared in 24 games for the Bruins, joining the starting lineup on four occasions… Continued to make her presence felt on the defensive end, recording 18 blocks and 18 steals during her sophomore campaign… Played 14.4 minutes per game, scoring 2.0 points and grabbing 2.0 rebounds per game… Set a new season high in assists, tossing 32 helpers to her teammates during her second campaign with UCLA… Joined Germany in February for the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament 2024, missing three contests for the Bruins as she traveled to and from Brazil… The Germans collected two wins in three games… Sontag appeared in Saturday’s game against Australia; the sophomore played 19 and a half minutes in the effort… The Berlin native scored a 3-pointer, grabbed a pair of boards and tallied two steals against the Aussies.

2022-23
A key to the Bruins’ defense, the freshman was only one of four players in the Pac-12 to average over one block and one steal per game (1.1 BLK/G, 1.1 STL/G)… Appeared in 35 games during her freshman season, making seven starts along the way… Made four consecutive starts Jan. 15-27… Played 17.2 minutes per game during the year… Averaged 4.9 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, grabbing 54 offensive boards to aid UCLA’s top-ranked offensive rebounding effort (14.6 ORPG, 1st in the Pac-12/21st in the NCAA)… Had her first standout performance against then-No.11/12 Tennessee, putting up 12 points and adding 7 rebounds in the winning effort to help advance the Bruins to the finals of the Battle 4 Atlantis… Scored 11 points (4-for-8 FG) and added 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals and 2 blocks in the win over Oregon State at home (Feb. 10) in another breakout performance… Fourth on the team in total rebounds (143 REB)… UCLA Statistical Ranks: Freshman Season Totals: 37 blocks (3rd all-time), which ranked 8th in the Pac-12 among all players in 2022-23.
 
HIGH SCHOOL/CLUB
Attended Schadow-Gymnasium Berlin for high school… Played for Tus Lichterfelde and Eisvögel USC Freiburg… Won three youth team German championships with Tus Lichterfelde… Named MVP for the WNBL for the 2019-2020 season…  With Eisvögel USC Freiburg, she was part of the 2021-22 DBBL championship squad… Voted league Rookie of the Year after putting up 7.9 points per game shooting 36.9% from beyond the arc, adding 4.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per contest… Ranked No. 4 in the Premier Basketball Worldwide Hoops International rankings to round out UCLA’s top-rated recruiting class… German National Team: Played for Germany in the 2022 FIBA U20 Women’s European Championship… Averaged 11.6 points, 6 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 1.4 blocks in five contests… Made the German Senior National Team for the 2021 FIBA Women’s EuroBasket Qualifiers… Represented the German Youth National Team at the FIBA U16 Women’s European Championship in 2018 and 2019.
 
PERSONAL
Daughter of Bernd and Sabine Sontag … Born in Berlin, Germany… Has an older sister, Frederike (Freddy) and an older brother, Jonah… Describes her biggest athletic thrill as the first time she played in the European Championship against Lithuania… “It was an extremely close game and there were a lot of fans supporting Lithuania. I was struggling with back pain in the moment, but I played through it. We were down with two minutes left, but we gave it everything we got and ended up winning by five. I’ll always remember this game, because we worked together and gave it our all, which paid off in the end” … Says Dirk Nowitzki is the famous athlete she most admires… Enjoys finding good food with friends… Landed in Westwood because “UCLA made me feel most at home. I get along great with the coaches and I know that they care a lot about my development as a player, but also as a person. The program is great academically and basketball-wise, and it has many off-court activities like giving back to the community that I find admirable” … She also boasts a creative side and likes to make necklaces, bracelets and earrings… Confident in her knowledge of flags, claiming she could ace a multiple-choice quiz on the flags of different countries… After graduation, she wants to play professional basketball and become a doctor… Undeclared major.
