Kayla Shirey joined the UCLA Athletics Department as the Assistant Director, Operations in May 2017. She was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director, Event Operations in September of 2019 and then named Senior Associate Athletic Director, Facilities, Operations & Capital Projects in July of 2023.
A member of the department’s senior staff, her duties include leadership of the day-to-day operations of the department’s facilities, events, graphic artists, production, and sports turf management teams. She also oversees NCAA, Pac-12, and MPSF championships and the event operations department. In her current role she works closely with the Rose Bowl, City of Pasadena and other entities on and off campus to execute high quality, safe, and enjoyable events for all of the department’s 25 varsity programs. Shirey also serves as sport administrator for the Women’s Rowing program.
Prior to UCLA, Shirey spent two and a half years at Arizona State as an event coordinator, overseeing the guest relations program and game day operations for soccer, softball and golf. Prior to Arizona State, she was a full time graduate assistant for Kansas Athletics in student-athlete support services and worked part-time for the facilities and operations department. She began her career in athletics at San Diego State as an event coordinator for development.
Shirey is an active member of the PAC-12 Team Green organization, Women Leaders in College Sports organization, and serves on the board of directors for the KU Sport Management graduate program. Shirey was name the 2023 CEFMA Event Manager of the Year.
The San Diego, CA native is a 2009 graduate of San Diego State University and earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Kansas in 2014.
