Hawk, Moss Named Stopper of the Year Finalists
June 04, 2026 | Baseball
DALLAS โ UCLA right-handers Easton Hawk and Wylan Moss have been selected as NCBWA Stopper of the Year finalists, the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association announced Thursday, recognizing the two Bruins as the nation's premier late-inning weapons during the 2026 season.
ย
Hawk delivered one of the most dominant relief seasons in college baseball, finishing with a 1.93 ERA, 14 saves, and 52 strikeouts across 42.0 innings. His campaign was defined by a remarkable run of consistency. Hawk went 26 consecutive outings without surrendering an earned run, a streak that stretched from March 13 through Mayย 25. During that span, he held opponents to a .172 average and struck out 40 hitters. Hawk was at his best in high-leverage moments, recording scoreless outings against ranked opponents Tennessee (Feb.ย 27), USC (Apr.ย 3-4), and Oregon (Mayย 10). He also delivered a season-best three-inning save in the Big Ten Tournament Championship game vs. Oregon on Mayย 24. His late-inning dominance was central to UCLA's 48-6 regular-season record and earned him First Team All-America honors.
ย
Moss, excelled in a hybrid long-relief and high-leverage role that made him one of the most valuable multi-inning arms in the Big Ten. The sophomore finished 5-1 with a 2.49 ERA across 65 innings, striking out 76 while walking just 24. Opponents hit only .194 against him, and his ability to neutralize the heart of opposing lineups routinely shifted momentum in UCLA's favor. Moss' versatility allowed the Bruins to shorten games, bridge tight matchups, and maintain elite run prevention throughout the season.

The NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award honors the nation's top relief pitcher. Finalists were selected based on performance, impact, and consistency throughout the 2026 campaign. The honoree will be announced during a news conference at the Men's College World Series on Friday, June 12, at Charles Schwab Field in Omaha, Neb.
