Albuquerque, N.M. - The second-ranked UCLA men's soccer team won its ninth straight game and remained undefeated in MPSF play, defeating New Mexico 2-1.
Junior forward McKinley Tennyson, Jr. tied a school record by scoring a goal for the fifth consecutive game (also held by Joe-Max Moore in 1991 and Billy Thompson in 1988). Tennyson has recorded a goal or assist in six consecutive games and leads the Bruins with 21 points (9g, 3a).
UCLA, now 11-1 overall and leading the MPSF at 4-0, scored the first two goals of the game. Tennyson's goal came in the 48th minute and was followed by Adam Cooper's first goal of the year in the 65th minute. New Mexico (6-7, 1-1) added a score in the 75th minute, but it was too little, too late.
Bruin goalkeeper Nick Rimando made five saves in picking up his 11th win of the season. Lobo goalkeeper Chad Nelson made seven saves on UCLA's 11 shots.
UCLA will remain at home the rest of the regular season, starting with a 3 pm game on Friday, Oct. 22 against UC Irvine.
