Men's Soccer Defeats Butler 4-3 In Overtime

Miami, Fl. - Senior midfielder Pete Vagenas scored the game-winning goal at 17:57 in sudden-death overtime as No. 1-ranked UCLA (3-1-0) defeated Butler, 4-3, in the consolation round of the Golden Panther Classic Sunday afternoon.
The Bruins got a pair of goals and an assist from McKinley Tennyson, Jr., a native of Indianapolis who came back to haunt his hometown Bulldogs. Carlos Bocanegra also had a goal and an assist, and Shaun Tsakiris recorded two assists.
UCLA outshot Butler 22-10 on the afternoon and raced out to a 3-1 advantage on Tennyson's second goal early in the second half. But Butler, who has been held to just two goals over its first three games, came back to tie the contest.
After David Beck scored an unassisted goal when he weaved his way through the Bruin defense and scored at 64:24, Butler All-American Stephen Armstrong was pulled down in the penalty area, and his penalty kick goal at 86:50 was the equalizer.
After a scoreless first overtime, Tennyson found Vagenas with a short pass out in front of the Butler goal for the game winner.
Butler (0-4-0) took the early lead on a score by Michael Mariscalco at 11:26, but Bocanegra's goal tied the match at 17:10 and the Bruins took control the remainder of the half and led 2-1 at the intermission.
