Westwood, Calif. - The UCLA men's soccer team, ranked No. 4 by Soccer America, defeated Oregon State 3-0 in its home opener at the North Athletic Field.

UCLA senior forward Shea Travis (Detroit, MI/Gabriel Richard HS) scored the game-winning goal in the 26th minute, and freshman Scot Thompson (Rancho Santa Margarita, CA/Trabuco Hills HS) and sophomore Ryan Futagaki (Fountain Valley, CA/Fountain Valley HS) each scored their first career goals.

After seeing two UCLA shots hit the crossbar in the first half, Travis finally put one in, taking a left-footed shot past Oregon State goalkeeper Bryan Hill into the right corner at 25:25. It was Travis' second goal and second game-winning goal in as many games.

Thompson, in his first home game as a Bruin, took his goal from a Pete Vagenas corner kick and Sasha Victorine cross at 74:25. Futagaki celebrated his unassisted goal at 85:38 with a flying karate kick. Freshman Jimmy Frazelle recorded the assist, his first as a Bruin.

UCLA recorded 21 shots to OSU's 14. Bruin keeper Nick Rimando (Montclair, CA/ Montclair HS) made three saves, while his counterpart at Oregon State, Hill, made seven.

"The best part of this game was in the end getting three goals," said head coach Todd Salda?a. "We're not all that happy about the way we played, but a lot of teams would be very satisfied with a 3-0 win against an Oregon State."

UCLA's record improves to 6-1-0. Oregon State slides to 2-5-0. The Bruins' next game will be Wednesday, Sept. 29 at 3:00 pm at Loyola Marymount.
